Let's Share Our Best High FPS Config Tips!

(Greenumbrellashooter) #1

So, as of lately I’ve been spending a TON of time playing around with ShooterEngine.ini. I also spent some time reading through the unreal engine documentation as well as posts regarding config tweaks from other UE games. It’s been interesting to say the least however, I still feel that every time I think I understand how it works, I quickly discover I was very wrong. Anyhow, enough chatting, here are a few of my tips:

  1. First, there is no better way to get the most out of your config unless you at least sort of understand how it works. This link explains the main settings in simple quick paragraphs (and advises on how to set them for maximizing performance) click here for info!
  2. Second, if you are like me and have a relatively old setup and is indifferent about all the fancy effects but still wants to be able to view guns/players in full detail in order to really be able to see all the awesome skins, and details. Welp, I’ve got just the solution! Just go to your current config, go to the [SystemSettings] section, and find the lines starting with:

    TEXTUREGROUP_Weapon…

    Once found, update the MinLODSize and MaxLODSize to your liking! I chose 1024, 1024 for all 3 lines. And also change the LODBias to -1 (this prioritizes loading the weapon textures over others, I think) and keep the rest the same! So all together it would look like:

    TEXTUREGROUP_Weapon=(MinLODSize=1024,MaxLODSize=1024,LODBias=-1…

    P.S. To do the same with the Mercenaries details and textures, just change the 3 lines starting with TEXTUREGROUP_Character…

  3. Next, I know this tip is in the main Dirty Bomb config tips post, but it really really helped make my game look quite a bit better despite it being almost at the bare minimum graphics. This is a tweak which sets up a bindkey that when pressed changes the colors and postprocessing effects of the game. Once added and in game, you must press F10 (or whatever key you changed it to), it really makes a world of difference on my setup. Just checkout the instructions in the pastebin link: http://pastebin.com/i2LRb4Aj

  4. Last, this is very much a moonshot sort of attempt, but perhaps if nothing else try and run the game in borderless windowed mode. I’ve only been able to confirm in two cases (one being myself), I TRIPLED my FPS when using this method before I was able to update the drivers for the integrated and dedicated graphics card on my laptop.

So, anyhow, that’s all I have! Let’s hear your best FPS tips!

(Also, I just really want to get to 25 points on the forum so I can use this really awesome picture of fletcher/sparks I spliced together. So… haha please do whatever it is that gives me points, pretty please :D)

hey thanks very much for this. I do have a question though: for number 3 with the paste bin instructuions, i cant find the place where I need to copy it in. What should i look up with ctrl+f to find the right place?

I just use the low preset, makes the game look prettier for some reason or at least adds more color, everything looks at lot less blue.

Hey @defentialDriver!

TL;DR: Paste the line in ShooterInput as the last line in the “ShooterGame.SGPlayerInputPawn” section.

For #3 to add it into your config, it’s actually in the “ShooterInput.ini” instead of “ShooterEngine.ini”!

So, open the ShooterInput.ini file and find the section:

[ShooterGame.SGPlayerInputPawn]

Then paste the line from the pastebin:

Bindings=(Name=“F10”,Command=“PostProcessAAType 0 | BloomSize 0 | FogDensity 0 | ColorGrading 2 | SetMaxMipLevel 16 | RawInputUpdateTest true”,Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,bIgnoreCtrl=False,bIgnoreShift=False,bIgnoreAlt=False)

As the very last line of the SGPlayerInputPawn section, so essentially it should be the very last line with text before you see this section header:

[ShooterGame.SGPlayerInputSpectator]

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you have!

I am definitely not a big fan of the super sharp blue colors either, but for me that’s what I use the tip I mentioned at #3 for! It really makes the game look great to me.

Oh yes, it worked! Thank you very much :slight_smile:

Just wondering what config does @NUCLEARSHARKHEAD use in his video : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7sSxkayJHL8

You can do this also easier, so you don’t have to bind it @ a key , and it will load automatically every game.
