Let's discuss ammo caches

Although a while ago now, I do feel that the ammo cache relocation was a good thing, in order to force players out of their way to get ammo and to prevent having a good camping spot. However, with the ammo cache nerf (no more ammo overflow) I feel that instead of giving half a clip, it should just give a full clip. And here’s my reasons:

  1. It severely gimps people with odd bullets. Since ammo caches round down, a person who has odd number of ammo in their magazines vs someone who has even numbers will be forced to sit longer on an ammo cache, unfairly putting them out of action for a longer duration, which I feel does not work well with dirty bomb’s fast paced nature.

  2. It does not render ammo classes useless. Ammo classes have the ability to move around the map which basically makes them still very relevant as the enemy may be sieging you or you’re sieging them and do not have the luxury to run off and grab ammo. Another reason is that if you don’t have an ammo class, then your team is forced to sit around the ammo cache which makes your team vulnerable to AOE.

  3. Just because you get ammo faster doesn’t make you less vulnerable. Sure, you may argue that you sit there for less time meaning you can run off earlier and not be exposed. But the fact that you still need to go to a place that players will know means that your movement patterns are already somewhat predictable.

I’d also say something about health regeneration being a bit faster over time, but maybe for another day (and topic).

It’s meant to be a bad ammo supply, to encourage people to use ammo from support mercs, except of course, noone plays support mercs.

If you had a good ammo support merc then you would never need to use the cache, which is the logic SD is using.

I’ve yet came across a fight over an ammo stash tbh.

I really hate constantly having to run to the ammo crates in pubs, when people just won’t give you ammo.
Seriously, most of my deaths on defense come from having to try to hold a flank solo, with a fucking pistol with 8 bullets in it, vs three enemies, or something, because the Skyhammer next to me was too busy with other things, to give ammo, and too dumb to understand the concept of holding flanks.

Some ways to fix this:
-Improve the tutorial to really get the idea of giving away ammo, through the thick skulls of noobs.
-Buff the rate of picking up ammo from crates, like OP suggested
-Decrease the waiting time it takes to start picking up ammo from ammo stations/crates, slightly.

Side note: please fix ammo crates so that you don’t get stuck on top of them like they were quicksand, and so that there are no weird blind spots on top of them, where you aren’t given ammo, when standing in.

Except I just addressed that issue in my post. Even if ammo caches gave you full ammo instantly, you’d still want an ammo guy because you’d have to go out of your way to get to the ammo cache.

I wouldn’t mind a faster ammo resupply rate for both stations (Kira + Stoker) and boxes.

Frankly, we need some serious emphasis on the importance of playing for the team. There are too many Skyhammers and Pheonixes that will do nothing even if you spam V-2-1/2, knife them, and jump across their screen.

I guess it’s not necessarily fighting OVER the ammo cache, but you end up fighting near it. I’ve had 3 other people sit on an ammo cache with me before, got naded to hell lol.
