  • mission time 15+15 min
    Alies gain +15 min if they capture the forward via truck/gate destroy
  • axis mg removed from the library
  • the tank is no longer usable after blow the library doors
  • autospawn setting changes
  • reworked voice announces
  • smaller command and sound scripts
  • (less tank version: the tank stop and shoot after the bridge)

so, did you ever get permission from Chavo_one to do any of this to his map ???

btw, not being able to contact original mapper is NO excuse to go ahead, that just means you DON’T have permission

Maps like Venice take a very long time to make. I believe Chavo one spent at least a year on it. Even with all of that effort, there will always be someone who thinks that the map needs improvements in the design or the objectives. But when someone makes unauthorized changes based on how they think it should have been done, you would think they would be able to make the changes they want the first time around.

Oh, wait a minute. I guess I’m forgetting how hard it is to design a map with nice balanced gameplay. Perhaps I’m forgetting how much time it takes test and re-test objectives and design before releasing a map.

I guess we are going to be subjected multiple beta versions of this unauthorized modification of Venice until he realizes it takes more than re-arranging the script to make a good map. If a map has a fatal flaw and is no longer supported by the original mapper, I have no problem with someone else taking up the torch with the mapper’s blessing. But modifying 4 maps in a week? This is not a contribution to the mapping community that I can appreciate.

I agree with Diego… making a map takes a lot of time.

Rockstar, since you havent figured it out… people here look down on people who modify or remake maps without the ORIGINAL mappers permission.

The changes you made might be useful and play out fine… but the fact that you dont have permission for any of these maps (as stated by some of the original mappers here) makes us wish you didnt post here.

Its not a contribution… its an agrivation. Obviously you know something about a script… because all you are doing is changing it around.

Take some time to send an email to the original mappers and ask. We are all pretty easygoing. I know I have sent my source files to several people. If you have permission, you can make more than just script changes as you will likely get the map file.

So please stop remaking/modifying peoples maps without permission.

D3coy, if somebody make an external script or bug/texture fixes, like the et pro style scripts (example for battery- blowable backdoor, warbell - wall at bell mechanism etc. which change the gameplay also or like i wrote fix bug or add missed texture), need also permission?

Btw i agree about the maps and full respect if somebody take time to make maps for ET in frre time for a free game for the community, and really sorry if iam wrong! I like ET, i try also make better, but i know atm i learn this way.

What decoy, and everyone else is saying is this: What YOU thinks improves a map, probably doesn’t. Odds are, especially with maps like Caen and Venice, that any probalems would have been fixed a LONG time ago by the original mapper or in a sactioned project.

All your changes, while they might seem nice to you, require really no major skills. All you have to do is copy/paste scripts from that map and other maps to make the changes you want. If you want to learn how to map, follow a damn tutorial. There are hundreds of them out there! Take your time. All this time you’ve spent re-scripting already awesome maps you could have spent learning how to build yoru own from scratch.

Im not against modifying/fixing someones map… its doing it without consulting the original mapper that is crappy. Some mappers take offense to it… some mappers dont want a bunch of versions of a map they worked 100+ hours to make floating around.

It is not hard to find out who made a map, then email them or send them a pm on a forum. If they dont answer, then you should not proceed with changing their map.

If they do answer and give you permission, then you dont have to worry.

You should also let the original mapper know what you plan to change, though that would be up to the original mapper if they care.

To me this is just proper etiquet for making ANY type of modification to someones map.

There are people that make stuff for my maps. But before they post it they email me and say here… i did this check it out.

I agree with d3coy.

rockstar, there is no reason why you can’t simply make a seperate .pk3 to give a server admin the option to use or not while at the same time not disrupting an officially released map.

These unofficial map releases and any future ones will never be found on my server.

Here is something else rockstar. You say that your latest version is for big servers. Do you have any idea what big servers need? They don’t need a fix on spawnkill, I can tell you that. They need the map re-worked so it doesn’t crash the server! Venice gives large servers (60+) the MAX GAMESTATE CHAR error, making it unplayable when the server is full.

If your going to make a fix, make something which can actually be useful. Server admins can take care of spawnkilling just fine, and in the servers where spawnkilling is allowed, well, this version won’t be run anyway. If you going to steal, rip apart, and hastly put back together a crappy version of a formerly amazing map, atleast do something useful in it.
