Do you think there will a least used class? All the classes look fun. The classes don’t have set weapons (like medics have to have LMG’s) so that doesn’t look like an issue. I’m thinking the medic. Though it doesn’t seem to be any less fun as the other classes, it has less of an appeal as other games usually do. Maybe this seems like a dumb question that I probably should know the answer o but I just want to really hear other opinions. Thanks.
Least used class.
I’m pretty sure that people love being medics if anything is going to be least used its going to be a heavy or a heavy oprative. because the size and speed ratio doesn’t match up with the priorities of the class.
Every last one of the classes for this game has some really truely cool appeal.
there won’t be one, since maps require pretty much all classes to complete them
this topic has been created already in the past and dropped soon after
you would be surprised how many medics there are here
I think the Operative will be the least used class, or it should be anyway, simply for the reason that the other classes work together better. For example A soldier can complete objectives and re-supply ammo, Medics can heal, revive and buff teammates while the Engineer can also buff teammates, deploy turrets and mines and also disarm charges and reverse hacks/complete obj’s.
In a 8v8 line up you might run with 2 Soldiers, 2 Engineers, 3 Medics and 1 Operative. I am not saying the Operative is not useful, because they are and can do loads of stuff, the point is though the Operative is a stealthy class and if there are lots of them then you weaken the main assault whilst making the operatives more obvious.
Ideally you want lots of soldiers/engineers/medics with 1 operative. Its like in ETQW, if you have 1 Covert/Infilltrator and its not a hack obj then you don’t need any more, 1 for radar is good enough. The same applies to the operative 1 for buffing the command post and putting up a firewall while he goes off and kills + sabotages stuff is good enough. Whether people follow that logic though I don’t know.
don’t forget that classes are not gun restricted, and operatives can easyly flank enemy with disguise and shoot them in the back as well as open additional routes for their team and a temporary map hack
If there is a least used class in the sense that it is outnumbered I could see the Medics being sparse to some degree because most main objectives I’ve seen require soldiers or engys to complete. But of course thats not true, every class will have main objectives (medics = escorts, etc). But at the moment I know alot of people don’t normally play healers. But i shall be a hardcore medic. I love class responsibility in the form of life/death situations.
But then again…all classes have a huge responsibility. I have contradicted myself and confused myself as well. Disregard me
This forum is very favorable to engineers and medics. I’m surprised I don’t see more people gushing about soldiers or operatives, but I’m sure in the grand scheme of things there will still be plenty of ops and soldiers filling the servers (just not on these forums).
I actually favour the Soldier at the moment and I prefered Medic in ETQW and W:ET. I suppose I just want a change
A heavy pure specced Soldier with universals and heavy weaponry with Grenades and Molotovs + the ability to take ammo off dead bodies and give yourself and others ammo is quite appealing to me. Basicly a powerhouse, Move slow but when you get their you destroy everything in your path. Team up with a good medic and I shall dominate!
Regarding operative, disguise was always a lot less powerful with less players in quake wars. Hopefully it lets players use stat bonuses applied by enemies. If so, the class’ll be somewhat boosted. If not, it may be significantly weaker not just because of team sizes but because the increased ease of class interactions could point them out very easily.
The emp sounds like a significant team boost for non-operative objectives. If it is level 20 and chars can only have one level 20 ability, kinda sucks for players running op and not packing it.
Operative will likely be the least used class due to the least amount of XP gained(just a guess). LEADERBOARD NUMB3RS ARE EVERYTHING!11!!!ELeVEN!!!11!!111111
If I recall correctly, there won’t be public leaderboards. Still may be true regarding xp rewards however.

A heavy soldier with a minigun with incendiary ammo, super buffed health, buffed body armor, super buffed weapon damage, molotovs, extra nades, and unlimited ammo.
Yep, that pretty much destroys everything.
looking at the info and videos, I’m not convinced that i want to be an operative.
i would rather walk around with my team mates receiving ammo and health rather than walking around on my own. unless i can steal health and ammo from dead enemies and be invisible on radar, playing as a lone wolf operative isn’t very appealing.

This was my first thought as well, but then someone pointed out to me that operatives are your best defense against enemy operatives.
Two of each seems like the obvious choice. Taking more of a certain class would require you to have only one of another class. One medic or one soldier would mean that your team has less people supplying health or ammo. One engineer cuts down on team damage and defense. One operative means you’re either missing one on offense or defense.
As far as what will actually be the least used, i would like it to be operative, since the others are more central to team dynamics, but i predict that it will be engineers.
Everyone wants to be an operative, regardless of if they’re any good at it, so that’s out.
Medics have the same weapons as other classes while being able to keep themselves alive, so they are attractive to selfish players in addition to the players who actually want to heal others.
Soldiers have lots of explosives and ammo, an obvious choice for single-minded players.
We are left with engineer, a strong tactical choice, but a less obvious one. Only reason this guess might be wrong is if there are a bunch of people who discover they can camp with engi.
I was under the impression, at first (a month or more ago), that the Operative was going to be the most used class because everyone loves sneaking around in disguise and being sneaky and shooting people that don’t quite know that you are there.
After being on the forums since then, and educating myself with all the interviews/vids available I understand that operatives aren’t as much of a selfish or lone-wolf class as I once thought it would be. They are actually a big part of a team defensively (firewalls on posts) and offensively (map info, hacking, etc).
I do agree with others views that SD spent alot of time balancing the classes so that no single class will be unneeded or unwanted in the eyes of the player. There will always be someone there to take the role that the team needs to push forwards. And if that person isn’t there, someone can switch to it at a post.
I just thought of something, if you are playing an enemy AI team, say in SP, what will their team class make-up be, ratio wise. Will the enemy AI team go 2 of each, or 3-3-1-1, or 3-2-2-1, etc. But then again, since the enemy AI is supposed to behave like a player would, the team will probably switch between classes that are most needed at the current push.
Yeah the operative doesn’t have to lone wolf. They’re aguably more effective in with the rest of the team.
Depending on how big of an issue disguises become, I may make operative my secondary class just so I can ferret them out easier.
I don’t think there will be one. Even medics help with objectives this time. EVery class is needed to advance. And Brink only has 4 classes. I would understand this topic if there would be like 10…
