Least favorite objective type?

(TheStrangerous) #1

No matter how many times I play this objective type, the EMP delivery charge still remains my most disliked objective type in DB.
Too much team coordination required.

Control Point is sadly one of the kind on Terminal, I say Dome could use some control points. Especially the first part. Been a huge fan of those, since old Battlefront series.

Mix of C4 and delivery. Mostly because the current maps don’t make them fun at all. Terminal and Underground just aren’t as fun as a map with an EV escort.

Control Point as a secondary is awesome, but turning it into a main objective would be disastrous. Other than that, Deliveries are the toughest ones of the regular objectives.

I dislike delivering objectives the most. It isn’t that the objective style is bad, but like you said it often takes too much team coordination to complete.

Half the time my team just lets them return the objective, instead of just shooting the person returning it even though it is clearly obvious that it is being returned as the “time until respawn bar” disappears while the other team is interacting with it.

Sometimes it just takes the smallest amount of effort from my team to win, but they just can’t be bothered.

Pubs though, am I right?

EV escort, not necessarily it’s “bad”, but mainly in pubs where you’re lacking engineers and that other team just keeps spamming assault attacks that keep destroying the EV makes it extremely frustrating. Another scenario is when the EV is stuck in a horrible location where you can get attacked on all sides which makes it impossible to repair.

EMP delivery usually feels terrible, at least in most cases.
In chapel, trainyard, and terminal (even previously Dome), you have to deliver two of them. That’s doing two of the exact same objectives with no change, while in every other map, objectives dynamically change gameplay. Imagine if you had to plant C4 on an objective twice, lol.
Not to mention the issue Terminal faces (the other maps as well to a lesser extent) EMP charges can be stolen or delivered annoyingly fast when no one’s looking. I’ve seen a lot of matches that were won by luck, rather than actual teamwork. And in Terminal, you can even steal the charge before the Defenders have a chance to spawn right after the EV is escorted. Once it’s stolen, it’s almost always too late to recover it.

It’s not so bad in chapel (although that section is a little boring), trainyard I just all around hate, and terminal is horrible for it.

I really wish DB would expand on objectives though. You’re right, it would be better if Dome had a control point. DB is already filled with far too much carryables and C4.

@STARRYSOCK Terminal? You mean Bridge?

Some new objective types would be nice. This would definitely add some variety without the need for new gamemodes (although I still want that too). As for my least favorite type, I don’t necessarily have one, but I do agree with everyone else that delivery objectives are annoying.

I do have a favorite though! EV escorting is by far the most fun, but only on Chapel. I can’t wait for Dockyard. Although I’m fairly disappointed with how Dockyard’s looking, I like the long EV escort and multiple side objectives.

There’s tons of possible objective types I’d like to see added into the game. The difficult part is probably how to implement them without making them too similar to the current objectives.

EDIT: One objective that immediately came to mind is a “Destroy the core” kind of objective. If you’ve ever played Unreal Tournament (or even games similar), then you probably know what I’m talking about. This can be implemented in multiple ways. I could definitely see it as explosive mayhem where Arty, Skyhammer, Kira, Fragger, and Nader reign supreme. Would be interesting to be honest.

I’m honestly surprised, that for a team based game, DB lacks control points.

CP as main objective can work. Doesn’t have to be capped = insta win.
It can be like King of The Hill, where the attacking team needs to hold it off as long as possible, or Turf War, in which every point, scattered around the map, needs to be taken. Think KOTH would suit pubs better. Heck, even replace the first Dome Objective with it entirely.

(ThunderZsolt) #10

Maybe I don’t like it because on trainyard and chapel the defenders can hold it way too often. Also, engineers should deliver faster IMO, even if it is not 50% like the C4

(Eox) #11

Wrong vote. Consider my least favourite being Charge Delivery thanks to the clusterfuck that Chapel’s 3rd objective is, though I’m definitely not a fan of EV maps. Fuck Chapel really.

Control point is also terrible on DB : we got a good proof with the first version of Underground when you had to capture the 1st objective instead of blowing it up with C4.

EV repair…especially on chapel…get it taken out on certain spots (especially near the delivery) and it’s hard as hell to repair if you don’t have a great team backing you up.

Lol, I knew I should have just gone to bed instead of commenting

(TitaniumRapture) #14

“I like them all equally.” is missing.

(PeterComputer) #15

I dislike EV repair the most, tbh. Besides taking so long to complete, I find that most of the time the EV gets repaired by a sneaky engineer instead of a whole team getting to and securing the EV.

(Your worst knifemare.) #16

You had to sit in 1 spot and hope nobody killed you while capturing the point…

(SaulWolfden) #17

The delivery is aggravating, especially on bridge. They should change it so the doors don’t open until the defenders respawn to prevent it from being stolen right away.
