LEARN TO PLAY PHANTOM FOR GOD SAKE

(Resine) #21

Well, i am sick of those whining thread as well.
Most of the scenarios looked like this, I see the Phantom 15meters in front of me, i shoot as many hits as i can, while he tanks everything and jump on my face with katana SLASH SLASH and i am gone.
Now when facerolling doesn’t work people are losing their heads.

While many people complain about the phantom issue is I think that if players actually play him in an actual stealth role (https://youtu.be/33fqvfY3l9E example) then there wouldn’t a big issue with him in the first place, but EVERYONE just wanted to be a badass ninja in a action game.

Except the armor he has right now is barely noticeable at best. You will still die, it’s not like he’s taking up loads of damage, but that’s what he was made for. He was made to punish the people who weren’t paying attention that’d get flanked by him, hell, if anything, you could’ve thought of Phantom as a sheep dog. If a wee lamb was out of place, he’d make sure they got back in it. It encouraged the enemy team, for one, to not camp in one spot where a Phantom has seen you, etc.

TL;DR The armor where it stands right now is decent. It’s armor for fucks sake, people.

You lost all credibility right there. 3rd sentence in, not a record, but nicely done.

“I have never played a class you all complain about, but I’m such an expert at this game and you’re such idiots I’m going to tell you what is wrong”

Buy the class, play for a while and then come back give us your “expert” advice… until then, you’re just another internet keyboard warrior…

It is interesting that someone who doesn’t have phantom is better at playing him than a lot of people on these forums who actually do or did play him, because the OP is completely correct.

(Ottah) #26

While there is truth in OP’s post, camping and shooting people in the back is hardly any fun.

I like to play the merc in a mixed playstyle, spending most of my time flanking and analyzing the enemy team, where who is at, dispatch of multiples with my smg or just straight up avoid them when i see no advantage for me and use my katana for lone targets that i would like to kill in style.

usually a heavy stab, followed by a quick slash or just straight back to my smg, but he feels really clunky now in the melee part altho that is not phantom exclusive atm.

The merc in my eyes is still useless, not because of the nerfs because he was already pretty useless before the patch. he just has no purpose. why use a phantom if you can achieve the same thing with a vasilli, arguably the most overpowered merc atm in comp. (instagib headshots)

I don’t think it was necessary to make him more visible than he already was nor was the widespread melee nerf for all classes necessary (since they generally fixed the main problem with his katana anyway).

[quote=“RecurveZ;15029”]im sick of these people crying they want their ‘‘op’’ class back.

This.

As I said before, his visibility was fine pre-nerf, as was the Katana/Chopper augment combo. The issue was his HP pool, and the armor providing so much tankiness that you could avoid dying just by re-cloaking.

Albeit, I think the melee speed, invisibility and cloak timers could be adjusted as they were while removing the absorb shield or at least toning it down again with the current 110HP pool.

Everyone says make him LOUDER, but that contradicts him being an assassin. He’s supposed to be stealthy, quiet and efficient at killing. Not a noisy white guy in a sheet swinging a stick around going “woowooowooowooooo!” when he stealths to let people know he did.

Once more mercs are released that counter him (Looking at you, Red Eye/Aimee) then he should have been adjusted accordingly. Pre-nerf all he was at best was a pubstomper for the unaware newbie, and an annoyance in competitive.
