Lay off mercs?

(HunterAssassin5) #1

So there are a few mercs I own that i don’t really like to play, like vassie, aimee, rhino etc, but every once in a while the game tells me to bring one of them along with me in several matches to get a bonus, and if I want that bonus, I have to take a merc I’m more used to playing and more useful with and replace him/her with someone I just don’t like to play, so I was wondering if it was possible to lay off certain mercs so I don’t get them in “get X amount of XP with this merc in squad” missions.

I’m not too sure how it’ll work, if you get some creds back if you lay them off, or you need to cough up some creds to do so, but if the former probably you shouldn’t be able to fire mercs like Aura, Skyhammer, and if you grabbed a key, Fragger, and if you logged in within a certain time period that one time, Phoenix.

Probably it could be set so that if you fired a merc shortly after buying them, you get some money back, but if you fired them sometime later, you either get less or no money, or you have to pay a little extra to lay them off.

The game is F2P. There’s no reason SD would give you money back once making a purchase. Plus, they’d have to track if you bought mercs with money or credits.

oh, yeah, i forgot you could buy mercs via microtransactions for a moment, i was talking about in-game credits. yeah, maybe you cant ask for a refund, at least not one of real money, if you bought a merc with microtransactions

I tend to not care too much about bringing them along. On occasion I’ll actually play them. Due to this I feel as though I am fairly solid with every merc in the game now.

So I try to treat it like a learning experience

But yeah, having an option to eliminate or at least reduce the types of missions you get, including particular mercs, would be pretty awesome.

  1. You don’t have to do the mission, you can just skip it
  2. You can just have them in the squad and go on some pub objective and use the merc you like. You don’t have to do it in ranked and waste a slot
  3. Just do what I do: If you get a merc missions, take it as a challenge and an opportunity to learn that merc, even if you don’t really like them, maybe you will have to use them one day

But I actually think the opposite way, I think that instead of “have merc xxxx in your squad and earn xp”, they need to change it to “earn xp using that merc” (but obviously lower the values)
This means: Instead of “Operation Nader” which requires you to earn 6k, 8k or 10k combat xp with Nader, they should change it to “earn 4.5k/6k/7.5k combat xp using Nader”. (values don’t matter, you get the point), this will make you learn every merc slowly even if you don’t really like them, but if you really don’t want to play as them, you will still be able to earn mission progress by earning combat xp with any other merc but at a 30-40% slower rate (so the total xp you earn is the same as the current normal missions without specific mercs).
For example: If you get “earn 4.5k combat xp as Nader” you will be able to complete this mission by earning 6k combat xp with a different merc (which is the same as the “earn x combat xp” without specific merc requirements). This will make it a lot more fun and people who buy more mercs actually get rewarded.

Or an even more fun thing: Replace the merc missions with a different mission style.
For example: Instead of operation Nader and Fragger, we can have “Deal a total of x damage with explosives”, which means you will be able to use Nader, Fragger, Proxy, Skyhammer, Arty or any other merc that can deal explosive damage.
Here’s a full list of missions I think can be added in a replacement of merc missions:
(x stands for a value that will be decided by the devs if it happens)
(After the - I will list the mercs that can be used to complete that mission)

  1. Deal a total of x explosive damage - Arty, Nader, Fragger, Proxy, Skyhammer, Fletcher, Kira(?)
  2. Deliver x amount of magazines to teammates - Any fire support merc
  3. Heal x health to teammates (revives count too) - Any merc (medics recommended)
  4. Deal x damage to the EV - Any merc (Arty/Skyhammer recommended)
  5. Detect enemies for x time - Vassili, Aimee, Redeye (yes, this one forces you to play sniper :3)
  6. Earn x xp with deployables (mine kills, health pack/station healing, all that stuff) - Sawbonez, Sparks, Aura, Bushwhacker, Proxy, Fletcher, all fire support mercs

More can be added but you get the idea. This will make it so the missions (or some of them) do require you to play as a specific merc but you are not forced to have that specific merc, you get a bit more freedom. Instead of playing Vassili for the detect enemies mission, you can play any sniper and instead of playing Sawbonez for the healing mission, you can play Phoenix or any other medic or even a Rhino if you can revive a lot of people as him (lol)

Still wanting to see missions generate during matches that are based on the mercs you brought and the needs of the team. In game missions could replace active missions or just provide an xp boost for whatever type of Exp the team is lacking (heals/revives, ammo, repairs, etc.) to incentivize team play.
