Launcher forcing to re-download 3.24GB (the full game?) randomly

(Samurai.) #1

So i was playing earlier today absolutely fine, servers went quiet played abit of CS:GO and ETQW came back to DB just now to see if any servers up and the launcher basically wouldn’t get past the 2nd stage at the bottom of the launcher yellow bar thing but came up with two errors on two occasions, if there is a log somewhere that would give me these, point it out plz i can’t exactly remember them.

Basically thought after the first error that i’d just reboot the launcher and try again, another error came up, did the same again, and now the launcher gives no errors but is making me re-download 3.24GB which will take me about 8 hours.

Thought i should mention it and you can point me in the direction of any log files that i could provide to find out the reason behind this, and maybe help others having the same issue in the future.

Usually this happens when someone plays around with the files in the Content folder.
Probably not the same issue though

Launcher Output.log files can be found here - C:\Program Files (x86)\WarChest\Dirty Bomb

More information on reporting issues can be found in my signature below.

I guess this output log is no longer any use, as the game has redownloaded over night and so the output log is probably normal now as i can now join servers like usual. I can add it/any other log’s if you wish, but it seems to be fixed with a re-download.

If it happens again i guess i shall do this first / take note of the error so i can be a bit more helpful :o but atleast it’s all sorted.

The Launcher will force a re-download if the content it’s downloaded has become corrupted or if it can’t extract a file from that content.

It will also force a re-download if you’ve downloaded an incremental “patch” update, but it couldn’t apply it (say, if you modified a file in your Content folder which then makes the patching process fail since the binary delta is different.)

The output.log would definitely be useful in figuring out what specifically triggered it, though the reasons basically boil down to “the Launcher found something it didn’t expect and is playing it safe and getting the whole thing again.”

Ah i see in that case i’ll provide the output log file in the folder thats there now.

It just seems a very odd thing to happen, as i can’t think of anything that actually changed between the 4 hours or so between the working session and then this.

Does the patching process not check there is enough free space before applying?

If not, can we make it do that.

(jRAD) #8

It checks for space (plus a bit extra for safety) before it starts, but that doesn’t stop other programs filling up the space while it’s working.
