Launcher does nothing

I just got my invite today and I installed the alpha, but when I run it nothing happens. It doesn’t create a window or anything at all. Nothing. GameLauncher.exe does run but it just sits there forever using no processor. I’ve tried rebooting and whatnot, but no avail. Anyone?

Sometimes happens to me, just ending the process and restarting the game launcher fixes it.

Hmm, I think the thing it does after that is try to establish a connection to the auth server.

Are you behind a firewall or secure network?

Did you try turning off any anti-blahblah software on your PC?

I don’t really run any of that stuff. Also it hasn’t been a problem before, with games like QuakeLive or Hawken.

Update.

Exact same trouble as this guy: http://forums.warchest.com/showthread.php/36958-no-launch
Don’t know how I didn’t find that when I searched… too many generic words I guess.

Anyway I just repeatedly killed the process and restarted over and over again. Finally it came up. It claims that it is downloading the game data now.

EDIT: Ahh, perhaps I should have linked you to the latest installer, think that helps irons out initial install issues.

lol if there’s an update why isn’t that the version that is downloaded after you activate your invite key???

You’ll always be given the link to the latest version when you sign up - there’s no hidden special “updated version” or anything.

Some people (you included, it seems) have run into compatibility issues during startup. So far, the advice to getting around it is killing and restarting GameLauncher.exe. We’re using the alpha to iron out bumps like this, so thanks in advance for your patience while we do so.

Thanks jRAD. I’ve got it working now. Just so you have all the information you may need, when I activated my key I immediately installed the launcher from the download page and when I got it working an hour or so later it already had an update available.
