Last minute redemption (crush of hope, a tireless night of farming ends in missing by a bit)

(Nadika) #1

Okay, recently I have been playing a lot of Dirty Bomb and mainly for the humbugs. So, as the final day rolls around I seem to be swamped with poor match ups, and terrible collection rates. Long story short, so in comes the final hour and I’m racing to get as many humbugs as I can, I’m on the last point on Chapel (CDA side), playing Phoenix, clock is ticking (as the end of the even was nigh,) and we won, with me having a final score of 18,658 (mostly support). The only problem was as soon as the game ended, the roll over happened and I was not able to get the dapper doge (and tree,) by effectively a few points (around 10 humbugs off). I just spent effectively 35 hours straight farming Dirty Bomb, I missed the mark by a hair. two thousands humbugs in one night, only to fail at the last minute redemption. I know this may seem a personal gripe, but I can accept defeat and such; but darn, what feels like wasted effort.

I wasn’t sure where or how to post this, I wanted it to get off my chest because really its not good to hold sadness on you. I was having a miserable time doing this, (the farming,) with bad game after poor game after bad game. Where my teammates scored higher humbugs for lesser score, I can remember getting 48 humbugs for someone’s 66, for me having 100 more points on my end. Regardless, I don’t expect anything, but man, the struggle to what ended up like crush.

(I really don’t expect anything, so if anyone pays it mind, its just venting. I don’t expect a dev response at all)

that sucks bro… i was expecting SD to give some help in the last hours, for example 200 humbugs for the newbies which havent played too much that were online at the moment to help them reaching atleast one trinket or like in your case the third and final fourth one. Whelp i was wrong

(averagerussian) #4

And then there’s me, sitting on 9,000 extra humbugs

(hawkeyeguy99) #5

I gave up halfway through. It was too grindy for me, but I’m sorry man, that really sucks. Hopefully the next event will go better for ya.

dumping my feel links

back when i play in the dickens update i didnt get the snowman because i was sick in bed for 2 days and the last 2 day ive been grinding so hard my hand starts to hurt

still, you need to sleep, eat, rest a bit from the screen.
also my allowance came in late so i cant buy sparks trinket.

(everlovestruck) #7

@Nadika I’m sorry buuuut the event was like a month long. You could if you would :heartbreak:

Getting humbugs was so frustrating for me. When the event started, DB randomly started crashing almost constantly. I could only play one, and if I was lucky, two matches before the game decided to crash and I had to relaunch it. Finally around the second to last day it fixed itself, but I’m really glad the event is over.

Still got all the trinkets, but it’s the most frustrated at a game I’ve ever been.

(Nadika) #9

Thanks everyone (but it was tennobaum, snowdown, and steam sale throughout this. so I had my focus there)

(Szakalot) #10

im also a bit salty for not getting the dog trinket, but i barely got the frog anyways, tried to grind like you did, but in one night out of 3 remaining i only got like 400humbugs, and couldnt afford staying up all night to grind more

hopefully someone will appreciate your efforts and get you the trinket with some backdoor xmass magic

(Dagasawr) #11

I struggle to feel bad for you if this was the reason xD

(frostyvampire) #12

That sucks.
Next time you shouldn’t wait for the last moment. Get all the trinkets early and then you have nothing to worry about. Playing 2 hours a day will get you all the trinkets within’ 2 weeks

Well, with Christmas and New year eve, there are many regular players who play along the year who were not there between December 20 th and January 5th, thus making all those trinckets hard to get for them. Personally, I did not play during week-ends over the dickens event, but played more during the week days than I usually did recently, and I just got the last trincket one hour before the end of the event. Coupled by the fact that pub games quality is quite low recently (unbalance, many quiters…) the humbugs income rate was quite low. I definitely feel they were hard to get for anyone who can only play less than 10 hours a week, which is already significant.

I think I played too much…had 14k left over

That being said, the whole time I was disappointed there wasn’t anything higher for me to get. All got converted 1:1 at the end, which sucked.

was still an extra 20%, how’s that a bad thing ?

(ThePigVomit) #16

alas, I had all my thinigies by new year…If you want something, you’ll make it happen, if you don’t, you’ll make an excuse.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #17

20% more of something we have nothing good to spend on. 10/10 IGN

Can’t feel any pity here.

The 1st was trivial to get. The 2nd took only a little effort. And the 3rd+4th just required you to play a couple of hours every other day during the holiday season. Got my doge in early January and it didn’t feel like grinding. You kids should have been around for last year’s snowman trinket…

SD also did a good UI job and made it clear what’s required from you and what’s your current progress. A couple of people posted estimates how many hours it will take to complete the trinkets. So scheduling a healthy dose of DB between RL would have been easy with a little planing. No need to make a last ditch grinding marathon during the final hours before cut over.

If nothing else helps, kill your TV. If you never tried it, you’re probably going to be surprised how many hours a day can have.

And this is what real pain looks like.

It’s not a bad thing in and of itself, it’s just that you only get 1/5th as many and after you buy all the trinkets, it’s basically just a 20% cred booster, versus what’s essentially a 100% cred booster you get from the store/arsenal crates. I mean I guess it’s okay, but I still think they shoulda let you purchase say golden equipment cases for fewer humbugs than normal once you’ve gotten all the trinkets. Or something like that.
