Landscape...

hey guys, im an old quake3 mapper, ive done 2 quake maps and now ready to start working on a et map…but i have never used some sort of landscape creator (easygen)…now i found out how to use it…but i have 2 problems…i dunno how to make the final result bigger…everytime i do something in easygen…export the map file its this super tiny map…AND i heard you needed some sort of script to be able to plant mines…could anybody help me with that to?

The landmines are done via a shader for the terrain. Check out the existing shaders for ET and you will see an extra surfaceparm for landmines. All surfaceparms are compiled into the map and are not dynamic.

To increase the size of the terrain either make the terrain segments/triangles larger or add more rows or columns. I hear tramdesign have a good easygen tutorial. All the relevant tutorial links are in the top sticky thread.

thx sock :slight_smile: one more qeustion…is there a thread somewhere on how to make it snow in your map? caus i searched around a bit…and didnt really find anything

Snow or rain are an environmental effect enabled by adding a special key to the worldspawn in a map. Once the map is compiled with this key and a tracemap exists then it will snow or rain. For further details on the parameters for the worldspawn key check the ET reference manual with the editor. It has a section called “Environmental Effects” which should answer all of your questions.

i can basicly just build a landscape already…and add the shader later if i want?

well you could do it but i suggest to do the texturing in easygen as you will have problems aligning all the textures right afterwards (and getting the size right)

If someone could provide a fast tutorial on exactly how to add landmines it would be great. I been trying all night without any success.

I do have the

surfaceparm landmine
surfaceparm gravelsteps

in the shader file

hmm it should worj with surfaceparm landmine you already have, causei made it work (just for test) on a wood floor :stuck_out_tongue:

i can map…i already made 2 quake 3 arena maps…but i just CAN NOT get the damn landscapes to work!!! im trying to find somebody that can do a landscape for me…so it is some kind of joint mapping project…but so far…i havnt found anybody…
