Landmines tripping instantly

(GTBGranny) #1

Hi I have a strange problem.

I have tried to add some searchlights to my map with the view of making it a bit darker.

Now when I test the map and try to lay landmines they trip immediately and kill whoever is laying the mine.

This only seems to happen when I lay mines within the search radius of the rotating searchlight, even though the searchlight is pointing towards the sky.

There are areas of the map further away that landmines can be placed normally.

I wonder if anyone has ever heard of this problem and may know a solution.

is your search light script_mover?

(GTBGranny) #3

This is the entity window information.

_decal

Start_on is ticked.

Classname func_rotating

Spawnflags 1

Speed 25

I have two of them.

I got the prefab here:

set dmg to 0 maybe that will help. Because the default damage when blocked is 2. That could be the reason why the landmines trip when they block the func_rotating.

No that didn’t do it I’m afraid.

If anyone wants to have a look at the pk3 I will be glad to upload it for download.

OK after nearly a year I have come back to playing around with this map.

I was never entirely happy with it and thought I’d have another go at improving it.

Biggest problem is I am still having this problem with laying mines under the searchlight and I wondered if anyone had encountered the same problem since I last posted it.

I don’t mean to bring up an old thread but it seemed pointless reposting.
If I plant a mine near the church in the background it’s ok, but if I move closer under where the searchlight rotates it trips immediately killing you.

Hope that explains it ok.

Interestingly enough, that is exactly what happens under the searchlights in Ammodepot by Storm Rising (Marco Valenzuela).

could a brush have a damage function ?

(UJERebel) #9

I saw this on lots of maps, i think its when 2 brushes overlap eachother, dont know for sure…

(GTBGranny) #10

Nothing overlaps as far as I am aware.

There is also a prefab of a building with a rotating radar dish on top in the map.

Can’t plant near that either. (Well you can plant, but again they trip instantly)

I know this happens near a radar like in "radar ^^ and near a river, but dont know why… sorry

What if you separate the lightinstallation from the lightbeam? You create an script_mover and don’t thick the box “solid” for the lightbeam. And you create a script_mover with the box “solid” thicked which is the lightinstallation.

Because I think the problem is that your whole light (which is solid) hit the landmines in the z-ax. So what happens when you make it nonsolid?..

Many thanks, I will take a look at that.

Sods law, I have spent the whole day moving stuff around to accommodate the lights elsewhere !
