Lag on XB360 tonight unusually bad

Since the new stats site is evidently recording only Freeplay matches I really wanted to ramp up tonight for some Freeplay action . . . Unfortunately match after match I was put into was nothing more than a series of skipping frames, jumping around from one location to another, or even worse found myself running in place unable to move at all . . . until I was killed. . . So I was forced to quit the match and try to get into another one but to make matters worse I was repeatedly thrown into the same match with the same results. This just keeps happening more and more and its NOT my connection ( was a full green bar ) - and to test it out I quit Brink and popped in Black Ops and in no time was playing full frame rate, no lag, Barebones Team Deathmatch. After 5 matches I quit and went back to Brink and only one out of the next 4 matches was without the disorienting skipping and jumping!

It’s not our connections it’s got to be code related. I’ve tried so hard to stick with this game and Splash Damage has not been able to fix this nauseating multiplayer lag-skip-jump problem.
I have a strong, wired, connection and none of the other games I play multiplayer are stricken with this problem. Has anybody else noticed how this only seems to worsen with Brink? I’m about to give up on it.

Is has something to do with bad host selection I believe as when I know the host is ok, a mate or I hosting, its fine. Also just one player with a poor connection seems to ruin the game for everyone more so than Black Ops etc. The patch Defo didn’t fix things that’s for sure.

As for being put back into the same game, just select a different map. Also try Competition in freeplay.

I wasn’t online today, so I can’t comment on your report of recent lag changes. I can offer some hopefully helpful tips, though.

Step 1. Submit Player Review --> Avoid Player --> Communication --> Disruptive Voice

Step 1 is imperative in large part due to the way that Brink sets up Matchmaking. Brink will match you up with your Friends List before they will put you into random games with better connections. I think this was partly implemented because of the Drop-In gameplay. Even if you don’t have any players from your Friends List in-game, Brink will prioritize putting you in games with your Recently Played Friends List. In any case, you will get thrown back into the same game over and over unless you change the gametype, select a specific map, or Submit a Player Review as I indicated above.

So who do you Submit a Player Review for? Look in the scoreboard menu, and find the one guy who has a full green bar connection in an unplayably laggy game where mostly everyone else is a partial bar. This player is the Host. Host Selection and Host Migration in Brink are often sub-par, even after the general netcode improvements.

When looking for games, ensure that you play in games where you have a compatible connection to the Host by Avoiding P2P Hosts who can’t host proper full-team games. Interestingly, I have discovered that you can be just fine playing in the same game as a player who you have a bad client-host connection with, so long as the offending party isn’t the one hosting the match.

In the instances when I’m playing with a bunch of friends, one or two players will often leave the match at the end of the round (for upgrades and so on). When this happens, a Host Migration sometimes occurs if one of the departing players was Host. Sometimes, this will result in an inadequate and laggy host being selected. If you have the benefit of being in a Fireteam or in Party Chat with said player, the problem is often simply and easily resolved by requesting that they exit and rejoin the game. When they comply, a new Host Migration occurs and this will often solve the problem.

Thanks for all those tips guys! I will try to adhere to some of those as guidelines upon my next attempts to play Brink. I don’t want to throw in the towel but I can’t help but feel like we all should not have to be subjected to all of this malfunctioning and be caused to jump through flaming hoops with heads-up, observe and report, “work arounds” in order to avoid frustrations resulting from poor design and coding that is fixable. I’ve been playing Brink since day 1, am level 20 with one character already, and have only seen this problem go spiraling downward from sometimes laggy - to bad lag - to worse.

They simply have got to fix it or the community will only continue to weaken. . . and it won’t be because of lack of enthusiasm from us players who just want it to work right.
