Lack Of Reward For Progression

(TepidJesus) #1

As I have progressed through the ranks of Dirty Bomb I have enjoyed every minute of it (Except 2016, those were some dark times). However, as I have progressed I have noticed that apart from a, lets be honest pretty average arsenal crate whenever we level up, there is no direct reward for actually progressing through the game (Sure you get better loadouts, but levelling up doesn’t help you with that). The only thing that I can think of that could be a feasible reward for progressing might be an Expert (or maybe elite case, probably not) or we might get to choose between an Expert case, Credits or Fragments.

Another idea I had might be as we level up to allow more DB profile customisation or maybe allow longer clan tags the higher you level. (These ideas are very loose)

This is just an idea, but I would like to hear others as I am pretty stuck on the situation.

give better Optics/accessories the higher you level up

e.g. all optics will be unlocked within the first 20 levels
maybe something like this for M4

and the rest is cosmetics

also, you might wanna play for fun, not progression.
if you apply play for progression youre playing the wrong game man.

In game progression always leads to cancer.

I wouldn’t mind a special card tier available every 25 levels. Perhaps you obtain the option to buy a special case catered to level 25, then 50, then 75, then 100, and so on and you get one case for free as a reward. These cases will contain every loadout for every merc and each one will have a special skin that maybe signifies progression somehow.

If we could obtain the ability to create our own skins at level 100, that would be awesome!

There’s a ton of things that could be done with the progression, but this is one game that I feel doesn’t really need it. I play for the fun. However, I would love having some sort of progression system as well for those times I get a little anxious.

optics cant be touched : better optics -> unfair advantage

I can’t remember when I suggested some sort of birthday thingy… once a year even or so.

like how many years have you been playing DB?

(TepidJesus) #7

I’ve been playing since mid-2015 and am level 32 now after a half year hiatus in 2016.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #8

Elite cases at higher levels instead of credit boosters and weapon kits we’ll never use would be nice

(Chilled Sanity) #9

I really don’t think Optics would make that big of a difference. No one uses Iron sights to start with anyways. Except low levels. Sad times.

(Szakalot) #10

‘not that big a difference’ - last words of p2w developers.

(GatoCommodore) #11

well, maybe if we made it 1x optics it wouldnt change too much except being a better variant than the iron sight.

its really hard when your enemy simply dissapear when it moves to your iron sight and you cant see it while trying hard to track.

the blishlok kind of sight would be enough

(Szakalot) #12

this is exactly the point: better players would use blishlok-like sights and have even bigger advantage over the newbies who are stuck with bad sights

(Xenithos) #13

Optics are highly important in a shooter, and optics don’t include just the gun and the way iron-sights or scopes work, it also includes reticle familiarity and size, and clarity of enemies under sights.

The bigger the target, the easier to hit. If it’s more obvious where your bullet is going, then it’s easier to hit then as well.
Some sights are to intrusive, some are just right. There’s a reason Call of Duty (look at me… referencing a shooter we hate) has ~4-7 different scopes, and such a wide range of iron sights (including BETTER IRON SIGHTS, HUH!?) and reticles for you to use/choose.
DB just happens to be fast-enough that in close quarters combat, you’ll be using hip-fire. The majority of the game is in tight corners, turns, etc.
Honestly, I feel this is the BIGGEST reason most DB veterans hate Dome. It forces you to aim more with the right mouse button, and snipers are better on maps like these for a reason.
The bigness of the map is a majority of it. Look at chapel, look at bridge, those long roads and longer parts where you’re engaging enemies at a distance? There are ways around almost every avenue. But Dome? Almost every path is wide, and longer - mid range combat.
If I could put the blish-lock scope or even the BR-16 or K-121 sights on the Grandeur (I prefer these weapons when zooming in…), I’d personally, probably, never use a different weapon.

Cosmetic unlocks, card variants, theres a ton of potential for shiny unlocks that is not being made use of so once a player has everything they feel they want, theres nothing to drive that urge to just keep playing.

Would be great to have something to spend the coins on once all the mercs are unlocked. Right now i just keep saving up 100k credits and blowing it on 100 cases, just to see what happens.

(Nail) #15

problem is, you guys want to play card/shiny collector and it’s a shooter game not pokemon

(pumpkinmeerkat) #16

You have the best cosmetic items in the game though :stuck_out_tongue:

As a bronze4lifer I would still prefer RNG silver-or-better cosmetics over additional credits or anything to do with crafting. Other than that I don’t mind that a meaningless indication of playtime is rewarded with something that looks cool but is also pointless/meaningless.

Fix gameplay, bugs, and balance then give us more and better cosmetic items to buy with cash or credits.

If you’ve played a single popular online game in the last ~5 years you should really know a game can be both. Theres skins in csgo, overwatch, planetside 2, battlefield, call of dookie, division, rocket league - The list goes on. Character customization also gives pretty decent potential for the studio to bring in some extra cash if handled correctly (Rocket league/overwatch RNG cases = good - CSGO cases = practically robbery).

A whole buncha people like to stand out, if you dont thats fine too.

you miss my point, I play the game. others collect cards, IDGAF about shiny or those other collector games, it’s a console thing and I think they’re total crap

well nail, even if you dont give a fug about the “Shinies”, it does make the game age longer and it does give things to do on the side.

its like when you take public transport while listening music.

i know that your goal is to stop at your workplace but its a bit better when you can also listen to your favourite music.

(Nail) #20

nope, doesn’t make the game last longer or be better, just satisfies tiny minds that need an attaboy every 2 minutes to feel their life has meaning, W:ET, RTCW had no shinies, still going. Yes I know all sorts of games have them, don’t make it right, lots of people like One Direction, don’t make them good

edit: I don’t use public transport and don’t wear earbuds
