Knowing is Half the Battle (Class Recognition)

V1cK_dB, give up on wolf and jimmy, only AmishWarMachine and thesuzukimethod seem to know how to have a discussion.

Times are not changing FYI, one single average game that sold reasonably well doesn’t indicate a shift in the market, SD tried a new approach and they have admitted it hasn’t gone as well as they had hoped as will certainly do things differently next time. Their words not mine, read into that as you will but for me it indicates a follow up will be shaking things up, building on Brink’s strengths and eliminating it’s weaknesses

One would hope SD will be back on form next time.

LOL joke is on you and the ETQW mediocre club and I can say it as FACT as I created the club. It was named that way as a JOKE just to piss off the haters and naysayers on these forums who love to bash anyone who likes the game. Have you even read our “motto” i would say it pretty much speaks for itself although at times outside of the club I have a hard time being too respectful. We made the club to bring together those who actually enjoy and love playing the game. We arent blind to its actual faults but still find the game very enjoyable with them especially compared to the other games out there. We bitch and moan plenty while playing about little things, but have a kickass time doing so in most cases.

Maybe we would be more willing to make threads or comments about the true problems if this place wasnt half over run by trolls and haters of the game. But as it stands now there is already enough threads and comments about the same few things to last a lifetime so why should we sit around complaining or repeating things over and over for months on end. Pretty much we would rather play the game and have positive discussions regarding it and if you can’t be positive or argue/debate in a polite way then well we sick Wolfnemesis on you and call it a day. LOL but seriously our members have been more then polite and respectful in terms of letting you all get your points across and thowing you a bone acknowledging those points but we get nothing back but insults and condescending replies.

What more can we do??? Will there ever be a middle ground or a common agreement to disagree??? The way things are/have been it seems like “no there will not be”, so we will continue to do what we do and you all can go about writing off topic essays derailing every thread that trys to be positive or productive for those still playing and enjoying the game.

Maybe it would help if half of you werent GIANT hypocrites and gave us the same respect you seem to demand from us. You blow people off constantly but then cry to be heard and listened to.
I’ve been saying we need forced class models from day one. I pissed a lot of people off by telling them I couldn’t care less about character outfits and that I’m not playing Brink to dress up my very own Ken doll. I’m playing Brink to play a team objective class based shooter and being able to immediately identify enemy classes is paramount. It’s been a few months, maybe the novelty factor has worn off, maybe people are finally sick of playing with their dolls, let’s see if there’s more support now.

The amount of poor design decisions in this game at the most basic level are absolutely astounding. It’s great you guys are taking criticism, but how on Earth did it get this bad in the first place? Where the hell were your heads when you decided to make the classes in a class based objective shooter indistinguishable?

As far as I’m concerned, adding the customization was a cheap way to try to justify selling Brink as a full title. Otherwise it’s got XBox Live Arcade written all over it: 8 maps and very, very little content if one were to strip the barbie doll outfits from the game.

Again, this is something i’ve been saying from day one. Oh by the way, the counter strike team objective based shooter that’s coming to consoles? Yeah, it’s going to be an online title. They’re not going to pad it with fluff just to try to sell it as a full title.

Even Team Fortress 2 came with Portal and Half Life 2.

Brink was a good idea, but it was obviously rushed and a product of one bad design decision after another. How many new people did you hire for Brink? How many of them made a shooter before? This has debut game written all over it. I’d be handing out pink slips. And I mean that with all honesty, from top to bottom. From programmers at all levels, to the map designers, to the people that were supposedly testing it, to the pr department for the huge “we have changes in june coming…i mean july…i mean august” debacle that made many players give up on the game due to months of mysterious silence.

If I was making a multiplayer game I absolutely wouldn’t want anyone that was involved with Brink, at any level. Brink is SD’s scarlet letter. You gotta wear it now SD.
I can tell which team people are on instantly, but the class isn’t something that matters to me.

MOW THEM DOWN WITH GATLUNG!

I can’t handle this suspense, people!!!
It seems to me that you are proposing a nerf to the Operative’s disguise Ability. Or am I mistaken?

Personally I think the appearance customization adds to the depth of the game. (Weird that customization would add to depth huh?)

-JJ
I was re-reading this thread and a thought crossed my mind. Class-based models might actually increase the potential for the Operative disguise ability.

I say this, because then an Operative could choose to hunt down and assume the role of a primary objective class (heretofor referred to as POC). Once disguised, the Operative could then act as if rushing the main objective, dragging along teammates with them, and:
~Lead them into ambush
~Lead them to believe they have support (i.e. medic), when they actually do not
~Etc. etc. etc.

I know that this ability for the Operative to assume the role of the POC already exists, but to be perfectly honest I rarely make the effort (no time, got people to kill) to remember what all of my teammates look like, so identifying them at a glance can be just as time/effort intensive as identifying the enemy.

So class-based models could enhance friendly identification just as well as charlie identification.

Continuing with this stream of consciousness… Because mid-match class switching is prevalent, and in addition to not being able to readily know what class each teammate is… there is a layer of teammate/class dependance & doppleganger potential lost.

An even better thing would be what I suggested: An Operative Ability that when activated (long cool down) it scrambles his team mates class identifiers for 10 seconds, thus allowing for a limited ghost recon affect, allowing for the objective class to have a chance to sneak to the objective. I really, really like this idea.

(Jimmy James) #197

Improved Homing Beacon Ability (Operative only) works like Homing Beacon only it adds an anti-Comms Hack aspect. I like it!

Please post this idea to this thread.

Strangely, no one has asked to join the club… I thought for sure it would be more popular with all the love associated with its name.
