Kira's Name: The New Evidence

(inscrutableShow) #1

There was a thread a while back that had speculation on where Kira’s name came from, but I couldn’t find it, so I made a new one. In COD Ghosts, the woman that was on the ODIN station (Which is like Kira’s laser but in COD) when it blew up was named Kyra Mosley. So, yeah. That’s all. Feel free to talk about it.

Stopped reading there.

dont talk about cod here :stuck_out_tongue: people dont like reading about cod, it makes them aggressive

(Your worst knifemare.) #4

And i have no clue what the connection is.

(ClemClem7) #5

Maybe the name come from the same stuff, but I don’t think Kira comes from a cod character. SD will never do such a mistake.

(SweetGenocide) #6

Fun fact : In indonesian Kira means thinking

(boerhae) #7

I believe Kira is the Japanese translation of ‘Killer’ too, since they don’t have an L sound

(Herr_Hanz) #8

i think you mean kirrer.

sigh

Gotta repost this link again:

Sanskrit for “beam of light”, Japanese for “shiny.”

Happy now?

That post was what I was referring to when I said:

Yes, I know all of that. I’m just saying that it’s possible that the character from Ghosts influenced the name a bit. Or Kira and Kyra might have the same name origin, IDK.

(inscrutableShow) #11

The two people that have to do with the same thing (a fricking sky laser) have the same name(Kira/Kyra).

@inscrutableShow
What if both names come from the laser, rather than one of the name comes from the other.
There is a connection, but not the way you seem to think:
Kira <- laser -> kyra from cod
Rather than
Laser -> kyra from cod -> Kira
Maybe I didn’t understand your opinion ?

(yesser) #13

i thought kira was for killer just like in death note :c because she is japanese he is japanese and the anime is japanese

I was merely stating that Kyra from COD might have had some influence on SD’s decision to give Kira that name. When Derpypenguinz reminded me of the meaning of the word “Kira”:

I proceeded to say:

It just seems like a bit too much of a coincidence that two people from video games related to similar weapons platforms would have the same name stemming from an obscure language (Sanskrit, not Japanese) without any connection to each other. I’m sure somebody that works at SD has played COD Ghosts at some point, and I doubt that a COD reference would be as world-shattering as you all seem to think.
