Kills or Objectives? Which generates more exp/cash?

Just a mini-kvetch post.

I thought that Objectives/Resupplies/Heals/Revives granted more rewards than straight kills in the game.

But as of late it seems peeps with the most kills (Skyhammer’s) are 1000’s ahead in exp at the end of matches.

Was it always this way and I just never noticed? Or has it recently changed as of the last tweek/update?

It just seems off to me as helping the team and achieving objectives should be rewarded more than going all “Lone Wolf McQuade’s Deathhunt”.

Totally depends on the game length. A game that pushes the time limit is far more rewarding to kills, I guess it could be out done by heal/revive spam but hasn’t so far for me.

Really short games objectives tend to put up a solid fight alone for kill XP. Ultimately though Objectives reward max 3k XP per game to a player which is nothing when you can get up to 20k total quite easily.

afaik, hitting team mates with health/ammo packs pays the best, not dropping them actually hitting them

You are noticing skyhammer at the top because of a combination of Support xp AND combat XP. Skyhammers can earn a LOT of experience by giving Ammo to their teammates, even more if they can land a direct hit with the ammo pack. Pile that on top of an excellent airstrike ability and a great complement of primary weapons you have a merc that can earn a LOT of experience!

Most likely the skyhammers at the top of the scoreboard are having a combined score of Support and Combat XP. He is one of the most overall solid mercs in the game imho. Very few negatives relative to his positive and in the hands of a skillful player he can wreck.

Badges. Badges are probably the largest source of XP, regardless of the type.

5 kills without badges will give you 1000 XP, tops. If you killed Rhino 5 times from full HP. In other words, even 40 kills in a round will only amount to less than 8000 ( and probably closer to 4000 ) if that’s all the player did.

If you do it without dying, you’ll get something like 1000 XP on top from the associated badges. Whenever you see someone pulling way ahead of their team, it’s most likely because of that, in combination with doing things like escorting the EV and handing out ammo.

Yeah I get most of my points from Quads, Aces and Godlikes I think.

Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

Fairly certain that smashing the EV wold be Objective XP, and maybe one or two free kills in the process. Occasionally, an airstrike wipes a full team. That’s a metric ton of XP (and rage) right there!

Otherwise, a sole engineer often leads the score - if you’re unopposed repairing/delivering/planting, score goes up!

Also leaving an unattended heal-station next to a competent Rhino rakes the XP while you’re free to revive less cautious players.

3k max for achieving objectives?!??!!? that sucks. I see constant Skyhammers or Fraggers leading the match scores of 4/5 matches I play. It’s getting annoying at lest for me. I dunno why but I feel useless when playing Fragger and rarely get grenade kills.

I’ll just have to content myself with scores of 3-9k a match I guess.

Well I guess it depends on the objectives, if it’s the pickup and drop off or plant c4 then yeah, like 3k per map. But repairing the vehicle repeatedly while repeatedly taking it out could add up to a big score. If it only ever goes up once though, not many points.

I get more than 3k just damaging and disabling the EV on bridge and chapel. This does not include the exp you get from: planting and disarming c4 on sub objectives, repairing sub objectives, the small exp you get per tick of escorting or guarding the EV/objective.

It also doesn’t take into account that you’ll see your c4 disarmed and need to plant again, or you might be disarming multiple charges a match.

I dont think there is any special approach to it.
I mostly work objective/medic and often end up on higher places that players who has twice the kills than me.
Just yday i had 4/2 and ended up on first place, ahead of skyhammer with 14/7. But i was playing as proxy and repairdancing around EV like my life depended on it.
And things like that happen all the time.
If youre not a particularry good shot its better to work objective/support for points.
Altho it does seem that match duration player a major role in earnings. I had games where i earned 300+ creds simply because round lasted 15+ minutes, while i hothoined in last minute(and had done almost nothing).

When I play Proxy on the attackers team, I usually end up first or second place with very few kills. If you play objectives with dedication, you can earn much more easily experience IMO.

Then again, I think it’s more a matter of playstyle. You will have a better performance doing what you know you can do best. The only thing that must stay in everyone’s head is to play as a team, even when you go for the kills.
