Lot of discussion lately about KDR and the like, i wanted to point out there are times when killing the enemy is actually a bad thing, something a lot of people overlook ,they respawn.
I would say that Kills can matter , but K/D is so utterly situational that its impossible to call it relevant. often kills are a bad thing , you might just be giving away a fast reload, or putting the enemy together as a group. run into two people and kill them both but end low health/ammo so your useless in the push is probably less use than killing the first heavily damaging and depleting the cooldowns/ammo of the second and then dieng to join a fresh wave that’s going to hit a broken up and weakened enemy.
i cant count the amount of times ive been playing as an objective specialist and managed to get behind the enemy team in a position to win the game, to loose because my team is killing the enemy sending them straight to the respawn so they can over run me.
take the underground map, i see they are not going to clear the c4 so ive moved forward and got behind them as they make a desperate last push. now if my team kills the enemy after the c4 blows they are just sending people to intercept me. if instead they engaged and fell back /allowed themselves to die id have the c4 on the game winning objective with the enemy damaged and half a map away.
Fact is a neutralized enemy is far better than a dead one. if you can take a guys ammo and leave him so low health one shots going to kill and send him running ,its going to take a lot longer to get him back in the fight than if you killed him.
it can work in reverse to, sometimes suiciding in to clear a med station will allow the rest of your team to push and move up a negative kill/d for you but a positive gain for the team.
