Killing Floor - Another New Skin Pack DLC, Any Chance of one for here Splash/Beth?

(Spendlove) #1

Well, as all the regular Steam PC players know, Killing Floor gets an awful lot of pocket money cost skin packs for DLC spread out evenly across the year and for seasonal events.

Four skins for 99p is a steal. Its (assumingly) easy to produce, get out there, brings in the cash quickly and keeps the game fresh for players and more importantly, fresh in the minds of players/potential customers.

As we all know and have read on the forum, it costs soooooo much money to approve and release a content rich DLC via Splash/Bethseda so why not go down the Killing Floor route and throw out new costume options or weapon skins/attachment skins every now and then?

No balancing required, no playtesting (apart from making sure the new skins show up in menus), low level of support needed to create and monitor and will bring in ££££££££££££s, possibly new players and generate a buzz.

Surely one of the digital artists can throw out a single head to toe costume for Security or Resitance with the odd attachment and weapon skin thrown in? Even easier, just new options for existing skins then no mesh work needed.

Or is it not as simple as I imagine?

Any answers from staff or skilled modders much appreciated!

moar DLCs please!
And in case of new skins of player costumes I also agree with the the thread-opener, but a couple of new maps would be also nice…

xbox only allows 3 updates which are non-essential

I don’t believe they’d make a penny from producing new clothing. Apart from the different model they would have to make 10 colour variations like they have done with every piece so far. That’s a lot of work you can’t expect to earn back when 200 people buy it.

I would not be opposed to something like this. Sounds good.

Killing Floor rocks, which is why I buy Tripwire’s DLC. Also, every character model is pretty much the same, so it’s probably a lot easier to produce skins for KF than it is for Brink. However, I think it would be a lot more feasible and satisfying for customers to buy skin packs for Brink instead of two-map expansions. I made the suggestion a while ago that SD/Beth should be releasing more cosmetic DLC in the form of character customization stuff as well as weapon customization stuff. More weapon/character skins along the lines of the pre-order DLC.

There is also an entire section on the main menu dedicated to challenges. Why, pray tell, have we not seen more of these? I personally would LOVE to see a bunch of DLC “challenge packs”. Think Parkour This in a variety of different neo-urban settings across the Ark. There’s a bunch of potential for Brink that was sadly not explored and now I fear it’s never going to be explored. Which sucks.

Yeah guys, I Killing floor rocks. I just bought the complete editions on Steam for 6 dollars.

BRINK can be awesome too
Release a special Christmas costume pack for free or a half dollars.
Probably a weapon that shoot snowball? Lol xD
It should not take a long time to make

Santa is happy.
Ho Ho Ho.

Again, this is an issue of financial feasibility. Unless SD plans an out of pocket Christmas charity gift, then nada.

Agreed; it’s just feels good to vent about it though. I mean, we could hypothetically go back to playing the game, but personally that would just make me more frustrated. Also, for whatever reason, I can’t contact the master server so my browser shows no servers whatsoever.

(dazman76) #11

I think that might be a Steam problem - Tripwire mentioned that some Steam master servers were down recently, and it was causing RO2 to have an empty server list for up to 3 minutes. By that time, most players had assumed they weren’t getting a list at all - but Valve sorted the problem, and the RO2 server list then started populating with no game updates etc. Some people had assumed that TWI had broken RO2 with a patch, but it wasn’t the case this time

Lol

10 character limits are a real pain in the… oh… i’ve typed enough

(dazman76) #13

Oops heh  A Freudian slip, and a rather fitting one!

It’s amazing how much a fanbase will forgive a developer as long as they continue to try and they continue to keep their product fun isn’t it?

Ever play Magicka? When it was released it was buggy as anything and it’s still got a few here and there. Getting a good online game is difficult if you have a bad connection as there are no dedicated servers and the net code is super hoggy. But the dev house (Arrowhead Studios) relates to the community and constantly keep spirits up and admit when they did something wrong and apologise while patching it. They work so hard at the game and the community and it shows in their sales. First proffessional game for the studio, a group of friends just out of Uni and they’ve done exceptionally well.

knowing silence

Yes - although there are certainly a good few who disagree over there  This time, I’m on the fence - because while I can admit that the new game doesn’t quite live up to the expectations created by the developer, I really do enjoy playing it. They’re doing really well given their team size - I think they have 20-odd full-time employees, so pretty impressive. I just wished they hadn’t been tempted by this mystical “widening of appeal” RO was an unforgiving game in many ways - and that’s exactly why the fans played it. It was “niche”, and the RO2 problems started when TWI decided they wanted some not-so-niche action.

I did actually buy it on Steam, super cheap - and haven’t fired the damn thing up  I must do so - when (if) Skyrim loosens it grip  I love to see all the Indies doing really well these days. It’s always been the case, but there just seems to be so many more of them these days, producing some really good stuff that’s well worth it’s price tag, and as you say pretty well supported too.

(zenstar) #16

They’ve had some great sales on Steam ^^
I think, not only are there more indie games out there but some of them are getting more exposure. Steam picks a few up and there are all these new indie bundle offers going on… it’s actually not a bad time to be a gamer.
Now I just need some more time ^
^

EDIT: I don’t consider this derailing the thread… merely opening it up to discussing more games than jsut killing floor and how they all treat their audiences.
btw: super meat boy on the humble indie bundle at the moment. Another group of fun guys.

(gold163) #17

steam sales are the biggest reason why that platform is so successful. I always laugh when I get an email from Origin declaring that they’re having a sale… You get a whopping 5% off of Crysis 2! Wow! Meanwhile, Steam is selling games for practically pocket change every week and has massive pop-ups when you start the program declaring their sales.

I hate to say this, but I probably wouldn’t have picked up Killing Floor if it wasn’t on sale… however I do not regret the purchase in any way, and have since spent enough money on DLC to make up for it.
