Kick bots / Lag generating clients and DNS hooks!

(Adam) #1

OMG, I am serious for once! CALL THE MEDIA!

I have recently tried to get back into dirtybomb, and instantly wanted to quit again. I have played 5 games, and all 5 games have Kick Botting. Back in the FREAKING BETA, we didn’t have this issue, and we didn’t really even have a game guard back in the beta… Well, we did, but it was bare bones.

Now I can’t play a game without being kicked by a scum bag hacker.

NOT JUST THAT, but also, alot of hackers are DNS hooking! If you don’t know what that does, it make it so after grabbing a player’s DNS, you can make it so they always return to the game, even after leaving. THIS IS SERIOUS! Not only does it ruin gameplay, but this means, someone in the world, someone knows my DNS! SOMEONE CAN USE THAT AGAINST ME!

WHY IS GAME GUARD ALLOWING THAT?!
WHY AM I NOT PROTECTED FROM THAT!?
CAN PEOPLE IP GRAB?!

These are serious questions btw, I do actually want those answered.

But to finalize this who thing, kick botting is bad for the game, if players have to constantly re-start the game, people are going to leave. But if people are getting DDOSED, Swatted, and creepy called in the middle of the night. You are going to have an issue.

I was wrong to re-join dirty bomb, and I am terrified to join back later down the road.

see you on the forums,

-Adam

LOL, Cool story, bro, but it’s too late now. They’re already under your bed, eating your cat.

(Adam) #3

o.o I sleep 1 inch from the ground. o.o

Who ever is under my bed, is really skinny, and when did I get a cat? o.o

(MTLMortis) #4

Can I have your loadouts?

(RazielWarmonic) #5

Do you have any evidence or proof? Any screenshots that could help us figure this out? Steam profiles? Server names?

(SiegeFace) #6

Forgive my ignorance, but what the hell is kickbotting? Like bots calling and voting on vote kicks? or being disconnected from the game? Please enlighten me.

(AdmiralTeddy) #7

I can call 100+ different things wrong with db but those you listed are just you going crazy.

I’ve got kick called even when I was top of scoreboard, but that’s usually a salty kid changing teams to vote kick and it never passes.

DNS grab, you’re just hallucinating…

This whole post seemed like a very bad acid trip.

Yeah, I am pretty confused by the terminology in the post. It sounds like mashing words together that don’t actually go together. I work in software development for a living with products that are heavily network reliant so I know all about DNS and I know what “hooks” are but they don’t go together typically and Google wasn’t any help. It sounds like you watched the latest episode of Arrow and listened to how Felicity Smoke talks in “techie” situations where the writers ram words together because most of the target audience won’t know or care.

I think I understand what you’re trying to get across in that you believe people are getting kicked and then getting around the temporary ban system and coming back to the server somehow using an evasion tool? Also, you think that some people are using connected clients that are networked to automatically kick a new joiner (like if somebody was intent on farming points for some insane reason)?

Am I correct here on what you’re trying to convey?

It’s like someone using a program that kicks you everytime you get in a game from the said game? How’s that even possible, and where can I get it?
I’m with…basically everyone here confused.

The only way to do that is to have multiple clients/accounts connected to the server at the same time and have them all instantly vote a new player off.

(SnakekillerX) #11

How can them knowing your DNS harm you?
Its easy to find out what DNS IPs are using, this makes no sense.

Google even has a DNS they provide of 4.4.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 I guess everyone using those is at risk too?

Unless they obtain your IP address then there is nothing tied back to you… this is just silly.

To better clear this up, the hackers were over loading my client with useless data, this caused my computer to dump memory, and close dirtybomb.

The dns hook i was talking about, the hacker then made it so when i rejoin, i rejoin that same server. I cannot use the server browser either. The issue is non-existant now, but it was a pain back when it was going on.

Maybe i was just unlucky though, because no one else had this issue.

Bartender, gimme a pint of what this man just had! And the shady fella there in the corner, bring those suspicious pills you just dropped into his drink too, they seem to be the stuff!

(ev1ldarks) #14

Very strange story, I’ve already seen odd things on servers (artificially genetared lag for example, like in the good etqw old days), but never these ones.

And I don’t understand this DNS thing, DNS is unrelevant here, only IP counts. And I don’t see how they can get your IP, only the server know it. Perhaps you should stop downloading things while playing ? ^^

How do you even overload someones client?
I mean, I’m not an IT/network expert, is this even possible by just being in a game with someone? I mean, isn’t the data of anyone secured by Nexon? Is it even possible to overload someone by getting his IP or whatever from a secured server without really hacking it?
@Amerika You know anything about it?
And…I mean…If someone can actually do this, why did he do it to you, and only you?
I mean, a guy with quite expressive hacking skills overloading a random guy in an online game?

I also work in the IT and all your sayings does not make any sense to me.

You talk about DNS poisoning but I don’t see when DNS is used in the game. Your client does not join a server with its DNS address but with its IP, so I don’t see the point. And DNS poisoning is difficult to implement this way.

Moreover, to overload your client they should know your ip, it’s impossible unless they have access to the server, or if the game suffers a serious flaw.

You should have experienced a game bug, or you’ve got a really bad karma ?

@Amerika
Extremely unrelated, you watch the arrow? Watch the flash by any chance? (this week’s episode in earth 2?)
