Kevlar values

(NthLegion) #1

I looked on the Brink wiki, but I couldn’t find this info. Does anyone know the percent damage reduction values for Kevlar? Also, are the values different for the Soldier ability and the Engineer buff? If no one knows the actual numbers, can anyone at least confirm that the damage reduction is percentage-based?

Thanks in advance to anyone with the answers.

thread is not comprehensive, but exedore (sd game designer dude) gives some hints on approx numbers, other folks chimed in with helpful info too.

no specifics b/c they reserve the ability to tweak them.

I couldn’t find any real numbers in that thread. PC folks, can this be figured out in debug mode? In other words, if you can shoot a bot and look at the difference in health to determine weapon damage, can you shoot a bot with Kevlar to figure out the percent damage reduction?

yeah no numbers. would like to see them too.

According to Den on May 16, it is 80% damage. Based on Exedore saying that having the second on is only half as effective, that would be 70%

Maybe Nexolate could run some debug tests while hes working with it to find weapon damage; in order to get something a bit more recent.

Well I already have most of my data. But I suppose I could go on CCity as Sec, spawn a bot (who will go Engi and buff me) then get shot at by an enemy AI. Maybe then I’ll be able to get some rough data.

While we’re on the subject, you’ve highlighted an important area that the Wiki doesn’t really cover; Buffs. Do you guys think it’d be useful to have each relevant page link to a “Buffs” page which breaks down statistics like these for Health, Armour, Supplies and Weapon Damage?

Nexo

Thanks for the link. If I’m reading it correctly, both Kevlars have 20% damage reduction, so 30% for a double buffed soldier. Not bad at all.

And 33% damage increase for the improved weapon buff? Ouch. Guess it evens out if you happened to be a double buffed soldier.

I’m of the opinion that more information is always better. Ideally, if someone were to form a question about Brink, any question, it would be nice if it had the answer. As long as its organized well, you shouldn’t really have anyone saying “there’s too much information”

So it all comes down to the question of how practical is it (with netvars potentially changing without notice) to keep them updated.

Ok. So I’ve just been in game to test. Spawned a bunch of bots, eventually convinced one of them to give me an Armour Buff with some gentle prodding. After that I switched it to 1 per team and convinced an enemy bot to shoot me with a Bulpdaun.

The Bulpdaun does 20 damage unbuffed. Now, aside from the fact the bastard shot me in the head 3 times (which caused 21 damage and confused the heck out of me) before htting me in the chest, the data does back up the previous assumptions. The Bulpdaun did 14 damage to me which is 70% if you do a little maths.

It did 21 damage because headshots do 1.5x damage and 1.5 x 14 is 21.

Good to know I’m not spreading around lies then.

Yes to all of those. Real numbers are the only thing that lets players make informed decisions. I appreciate all the hard work.
