Kawaii Laser

(ElDingDong) #1

I recently bought Kira. I have a lot of experience with burst rifles as Party Arty is my go to guy, but the thing which is really hard to maneuver is Kiras Kawaii space laser.
I dont know when to use it, how to use it.
I want to become Kawaii too, any tips on how to effectively use the laser?

Aim at walls, because the lights which send off the warning are only visible up from where you are pointing, therefore if you aim at a higher place no one will see it coming unless they look up. Generally you want to call it down at a place which already has a good chance of catching someone moving unaware, or at least close to it, and then immediately point it at a distant place so that the trajectory of the laser in that direction will cause it to go over wherever the enemies are.

Example: in Trainyard, when defending the last objective, you can call the laser at the exit of the brick house which leads to the ramp that goes down into the delivery area, try to catch anyone exiting the building and then send it all the way across the brick house, since the roof has a lot of open area it is likely to catch anyone inside the house.

Try to avoid holding down the marker and manually guiding the laser every step of the way, especially chasing people like that tends to never work. Also beware that the 2 seconds it takes to call down the laser makes you extremely vulnerable, in fact Kira as a whole is super vulnerable and good players will try to immediately find a way to kill you so you can’t control the laser anymore. If someone gets close while your laser is out, forget about it and try to fight them off/run away if you’re not sure you can win. Once you start getting the hang of the laser, try to pull off trolly lasers, like making it come down around a corner or in front of a doorway immediately when you know that the enemy is going to pass through there by timing it accordingly. Also if you’ve played a lot of Arty, use your knowledge of good Arty strike spots to initiate lasers and then incorporate patterns for it to move into places where people tend to go.

And play a lot of Trainyard and Chapel.

Don’t move around while calling it in unless you’ve got a wide stretch of something to laser on. If you so much as think about touching another object, the timer will reset.

You don’t have to see the laser, only a surface where you want the laser to go towards, which doesn’t even have to be the final destination. Tap the designator around on walls and make the laser unpredictable for maximum bwaaaaaaaaa.

Don’t manoeuver your laser by holding your mouse button with the orbital strike thingy. Switch between your laser and your primary and make them work together. Just click where you want your laser to go, switch to primary while it’s moving, reswitch when it’s somwhat safe and your laser is done moving, repeat… It’s the most efficient way to use Kira during the orbital strike. It’ll require you a lot of coordination though but it’s worth it.

Keep in mind that you can spawn your laser by using any kind of walls and ledges. Use this to load your orbital strikes safely and in an unpredictable way. If you manage to trigger it right behind the enemy team and as close as possible, you’ll very likely manage to wipe them all. Even a simple floor lamp can do the trick.

Kira is more suited for offense, and is best used for Chapel’s third objective and Trainyard.

@Kirays will be able to help you much more than I can.
