k/d ratio makes no snese in objective gamemode

(Aazhyd) #21
It can get pretty intense and you don’t always know what you walk away with until the end. In particular on a grindy objective that your assault fail on a lot. I don’t know about others, but I generally am not counting :frowning:
It’s next to each other in the score screen. Kills and deaths on the left, K/D on the right.
So that’s basically the same info.

Nopes, the reward for someone gibbed/having to respawn is that you helped your team, the kd is only for your own ego. But we now where this will go…
Just a reminder, this game is not tdm.
Edit: At least it shouldn’t be tdm.

Ok, goodbye!!

Why would I go anywhere when such a change has not and isn’t going to happen?

(Sushin) #25

What sucks for me is that sometimes I will spend most of the match defending a corridor with Nader, and maybe get a few kills but I’m mostly just dealing damage that gets healed, and you don’t get points for that kind of stuff, but by successfully blocking off an entire entry way for the enemy I’m potentially saving my team from a devastating sneak attack.

I’d like less binary scoring in the game. Right now you can either get kills or assists, and you can’t assist on objectives for the most part. If you heal the EV to 99% and someone else tops it off, I believe they get the entire reward.

A good way to distribute scoring properly could be to give people EXP based on the % of things like damage to enemies and completion of objectives, and extra bonuses to people who get the kill or complete the objective.

You get points per damage and repair on the ev, and you get assist-points on players if they die in time.

Its been my experience people play worse when they are told these things , the bigger problem than posting them is that kills whether they are utterly useless or vital all earn the same. as it names and shames you for your kills/ deaths people will obviously want to score more kills and die less. but the thing is and its especially true for the attackers often that is playing to loose
i cant count how many games ive only won because i was willing to die repeatedly to push and take objectives, sure they get rewarded to but unless there’s a lot of side objectives and the games fast a farmer will earn more and contribute far less.

is it a team based game where only the win matters or is it a lone wolf score attack competition against your own team?

I think that is a broad generalization that is constantly used in debates like this and those type of assumptions don’t work. In this game I’ve seen in game after game people sitting in rooms and holding them on attack because they don’t push forward. And K/D isn’t visible. This was true in past games/mods that never showed that. Many people play how they play regardless of numbers shown.

I’m also not being an advocate for K/D here. I want an expanded scoreboard where you can click on a person and see what all they did. If they had 25 revives, defused bombs, how many heartbeats were sensed, how many people did they gib, how many kills with air strikes…things like that. I want to see how somebody got the score they got. I don’t want it all put into a jumbled number without context. I know some people hate the idea of their performance being reviewed but I love seeing stats.

(B_Montiel) #28

No. Getting incapped counts as a kill to the person that got the ‘kill shot.’ Getting gibbed (not incapped) counts as a death. That’s why there always are many more kills, then deaths on the endgame scoreboard.

But I agree it’s a problem that players think this. Like it’s also a problem that players think they get a kill deducted if the player they downed is revived.
It is other fps’ that has thought them a wrong mentality, with focus on individual stats, rather then teamwork.
Has this been changed ? In the last Nexon build where K/D was shown 24/7, I’m 100% sure whenever you got downed or gibbed this counted as +1 death. And this was reported as something unlogical at that time. Will check this by myself later on.

(Amerika) #29

If you die and revived the death still counts against you. It’s the same as getting a kill and that person is revived doesn’t take a kill away. It’s been like this since I’ve been playing (right before the Steam beta).

(B_Montiel) #30

Pfiou, I just thought I was alone on that one. Thank you
It needs some verification though. And no, Dirty bomb is not as logical as most other games where there are medic mechanics, for that part at least.

Oh and by the way :

That’s why there always are many more kills, then deaths on the endgame scoreboard.

That’s just not true. I’ve just checked couple of end game screens I did. Even considering a leave during the game, you fall more or less on the same numbers (kill in a team, deaths in the opposite). Not a gap that should be at least 15/20/30 + in a team with medics.

(Runeforce) #31

Then it has been changed since last I checked. This sounds really stupid, don’t get why they would make this change, it really discourages pushing or ‘trying hard’ (if you care about kdr.)

(hiddenPalisade) #32

I don’t see the logic that a k/d ratio will make you a better player. more often than not people become conscious of it especially on a “impossible” attacking/defending game, and simple give up. instead choosing to play tdm(skulking in the back) to conserve their egos. or worse leaving the match. I’ve seen that on a number of competitive matches.

(NotaCobra) #33

Personally, I quite like the KDR.

If I’m being a lousy sniper, doing nothing but scoring kills, it’s a nice little swagger to look at your 15:1 KDR at the end of the game.

Alternately, if I’m doing everything I can to push objectives, res allies and be generally useful, I also enjoy looking at the end game score and seeing myself as top score, with the worst KDR.
