K/D platform breakdown

(zenstar) #1

I’m interested in seeing which platforms are for K/D and which are against K/D.
I’m not really going to get into the discussion about whether it should or shouldn’t be in the game (you can have that discussion on the other 50 threads about it). I’m more interested in the statistics around who wants it and why they want it.

I’m hoping for civil, well written arguments (but I expect to be called various names )

majority of ppl playing brink[for fun]isn’t tend to feed trolls and visiting such posts/votes.
while statswhores/selfishmorons predictibly rush here, [reasonably]cursed ingame for such behavior.

I’m on the fence with regards to K/D ratio, as many have stated, it can cause people to play for the kills rather than for the game which means they’re going to camp, or just hold back and not risk going for the objective… like there’s some unseen ‘Win’ for having the most kills in the game even though you lost the map. On the other hand I like to know how I’m doing… is the gun i’m using working for me, are my tactics working or am I just being a burden on the team by blindly running into the situation and dying all the time.

There’s no practical reason for it other than pure curiosity, I didn’t need it before and don’t need it now… but having it publicly on display does affect how people play.

That is an interesting point. If K/D was not persistant (ie: not on the stats page) and only your K/D was visible to you at the end of the match (open to screenshotting but still) and only for that single match would it be ok?
Would you be able to gauge your usefulness (in the shooting dept) with an accuracy stat for that match instead?

As for “majority of ppl playing brink[for fun]isn’t tend to feed trolls and visiting such posts/votes.
while statswhores/selfishmorons predictibly rush here, [reasonably]cursed ingame for such behavior.”
Maybe… we’ll see by the comments left. It’s still an interesting poll.

I think it could be handled in a subtle way that allowed you to see your kills and deaths, but displayed in a way that didn’t draw attention to itself or make it a goal to aim for.

In ETQW you had the Most Kills award, and it displayed that number beside the players name… but hovering over that number would display what your number of kills were, so only you saw it. In that same fashion, if they also added an award for Least Deaths, and again hovering over it showed your number, you’d have a very subtle way of seeing your kills and deaths.

Calling it Least Deaths is putting a positive spin on a negative metric, there’s nothing worse than seeing your name publicly displayed against a negative award like Most Deaths which everyone can see. Keeping that negativity private means you can still learn from it, but not be ridiculed for it.

Hmm number of ways you can do it:

  • Public K/D during match
  • Private K/D during match
  • Public K/D end of round
  • Private K/D end of round
  • Public Kill total end of round
  • Private Kill totals end of round

I personally prefer the last option, with only the most kills viewable to all.
Thats right, exactly like etqw :stuck_out_tongue:

Well the sample size is super small (so high error rate) and includes no ps3 players. I assume that these forums are biased towards PC players to start off with and I’m sure there are other biases to take into account, but a general glance at the numbers say that nothing is conclusive.
They tend to lean towards “No” but while XBOX is 80% against the PC is only 58.8% against.
That is interesting. I honestly thought that K/D was a more console thing. Thanks for proving to me that the people behind the words can be completely different to how I perceive them
Hopefully there’ll be a few more votes on the subject to get a clearer picture though (come on PS3 people: represent!).
And I agree with you Humate. If they start showing kills (or deaths or both) then I think they should be private and I also think they should be for the last game only, not persistant. That way they’re a helpful indicator of how you’re doing but not a bragging tool / an “I’m better than you because my number’s bigger” thing.

When are people going to get it through their heads that K/D means NOTHING in an obj game like Brink and adding it would do nothing good for this game. If this turns into another ‘kill farming’ obj game like the obj game modes in COD, I’M OUT!

And if they did add it I would have more respect for players the lower their K/D was. Do you have any idea how many times I’ve gotten killed trying to, I don’t know, repair the crane. While my clueless teammates run around aimlessly. Why would I want to see my K/D to be constantly reminded that all I do is go for the obj? I’m already aware of that thank you very much.

Anyone who gives a damn about their K/D in this game is playing it wrong!

Container City wants to have a word with you. Seriously, that map’s objective is kill farming.

Just freaking write up the frag on the log/game console already!
