Having K/D on the scoreboard during objective play is fine. Ordering the scoreboard by K/D during objective play is stupid.
Order by the important statistic (xp in objective) and it’ll be obvious that k/d isn’t important there.
K/D On Scoreboard
Yeah I’m with no KDR also, it doesnt really affect my gameplay now that I play for a long time, but it induced me to play more cowardly in the past.
Finding that way of thinking strange, simply because i do not have that mindset, but what about the pro-argument for keeping the K/D stats everywhere, even during matches, so that your mind is occupied and fear comes into the game. I find that legit, it is like the fear not wanting to die, so you play the best as you can and try to avoid deaths. Makes a life more meaningful in a spawn-wave based game imo.
Not meant as offense
I totally tolerate that some would want K/D removed from certain places, but i admit i find that way of thinking strange. Even some years ago where i played for stats, i totally accepted my K/D and never saw it that way. I played for frags mainly though, but during times i played for objective i couldn’t care less about my stats. Maybe introduce another stat directly beside K/D aka showing “died during repair”, “died during planting c4”, so that you are even honored during pro-matches, showing you didn’t play for K/D, but for “something else”.
I agree with some of what acQu is saying.
The problem isn’t about including K/D. It’s just another stat. The problem is not glorifying the stats that count as much.
The reason why people play for K/D is because they understand it. It’s an easy stat for an FPS because you do what the game seems built around: more killing, less dying.
What we need to do is either glorify alternate stats more (where appropriate) and make sure people understand how to play to those stats, or accept that there will always be k/d players and realise that once the servers are full of people and there are separate game modes that most of the k/d padders will be in TDM because that is their preferred environment.
TLDR: k/d padders will TDM when population is bigger. We should make OBJ stats more shiny in OBJ games.
You should not want to die because it affects how you’re attacking/defending the objective… currently too many don’t want to die because of how it affects their stats. If you’re not too fussed about it being there, then you won’t be too fussed about it not being there and visible only to you at the end of the round?
Would most likely play tdm if it was all about stats. Leaving obj for the people who want to play it.
I think if you argue that it should be removed during the match, then i find it logically to also remove it from the endscreen, because it is just a delay in showing stats. But i could be wrong, simply because i can not know what people think and how this affects them and i lack imagination a bit.
Also that one here:
You should not want to die because it affects how you’re attacking/defending the objective… currently too many don’t want to die because of how it affects their stats.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing ?
If it’s there at all (anywhere) then people who pad the stat will play to pad the stat.
I don’t mind if it’s moved to the end, but then I don’t play to pad my k/d anyway.
I still think that a bigger population will result in fewer stat padders playing objective games (since TDM is better for them) and this point will be moot.
But simply moving where you see the stat will not stop people from playing to increase it.
I don’t think it should be completely removed, but removed from the scoreboard - yes.
Put it in a separate UI that only the player can check if he wants to.
Why not bring it back in the form of ET games. The Light Weapons XP award has more skill based value than k/d anyway… at least in my eyes it does.
Hm, yes. The point is that it should not be so glorified. I agree with that. So moving it into a seperate stats window like for example W:ET would be totally ok with me.
What i do not agree with is it being removed completely, so that others can not see my stats, or the even more hardcore way, removing it even from myself. I always like to see my stats: from me and from others, at all times. It being removed will also remove a bit of entertainment for me. I am basically always looking at these kind of stats during the match, at all kind of situations, of course K/D only a part of it.
I would be totally ok with W:ET scoreboard style, e.g. bringing up an alternative stats window via ALT key, but i kinda have not an understanding for it to be removed, because it could potentially affect me and my way to play somehow. And even if that would be the case, it is a natural thing in my eyes.
EDIT also never thought about it this way
but with that in mind and seeing how i normally play it kinda made me aware ^^
I wonder if the endscreen stats will have a hover effect like in ETQW, popping out your own result in each category of stats. Only ETQW had it and it was just great. I wonder if they will implement it in DB. Hover is a much more elegant solution to endstats than just listing all personal results on another page of stats.

I’m all for that goal! But to bring it about through making a statistic more obvious is artificial. There should be more weight on dying through things that actually affect your chances of winning.
The point of a team based game is to end the map, dying or killing or whatever is not a relevant thing to show to others anyway, just brought some bragging time and the usual kiddO “ZOMFGIPWNYOUHARD LUL LUL XD” kind of things…
And I dont say that because I currently sux at DB, I just think that focusing on the objective and winning as a team is more important than K/D, even during playtest I often fnd myself the only one trying to do the objective, and my mates dont revive nor anything, they just try to find a spot and kill people, even when this spot is nowhere near the objective, leaving the poor lemming that I’m alone in the universe taking bullets.
this is partly due to the way the spawn works atm.
not just the timing but also spawn spots are a quite a distance apart. more severely on camden.
so if you want to wait for someone on next spawn to join, they may spawn somewhere else.
lesser so on waterloo and then LB not too far apart.
keep k/d ratio.
