(Demo) #22

It was a loooooooong time ago that I played campain. Most xp on three maps is around 1300.

Most xp in one map (30 min) is 600-620. That has happend three times. Twice on oasis, and once on goldrush.

But Im playing on BBB Efterlyst nowdays where that is impossible.

(the_last_unicorn) #23

If you’re getting more than 250 XP per map you should probably look out for a real challenge and change server.

(Agrado) #24

Most for me is probably 1422 on 3 maps or 577 on 1map (oasis). Pwning noobs  Major in 1 map is Good  My worst is probably similar to my average… feck all in many maps vs good players

(Chappy) #25

Piggy,
I’m using ASE, and all the servers ping in above 400. Do you know of any good tweaking guides for 56k players?

(Sick Boy) #26

ASE may not show correct pings (it doesn’t with me)

(Fusen) #27

as kendle saidplay against clan’d players and it will totally change if ya watch demo’s even the pr0gamers only normally get 60-150 each map and as the last unicorn said if you are owning them and gettin damn lot of xp may aswell just change server as you won’t learn by playing against noobs

xs4all is a dutch internet provider, who has direct acces to the european backbone. I think anyone in europe could get decent pings on their servers since they’re so close to the backbone…

(Kerunch) #29

I think you’re all fantastic players and I wish I was like you all getting such fantastic scores . Oooohhhhh my life is over how can I compete :blah:
If your getting such high scores in xp you must be shit team players and not doing the objectives in hand because if you are fantastic the map would be over in 10 mins.Go play
Quake or UT and have a frag fest. :banghead:

(EvilBaga) #30

I got 0 xp in a 10 map campaign. I would shoot and shoot but i couldnt hit anyone. Once I sneaked up to this enemy guy and shot him point blank range in the head. He heard me and turned around. I was thinking…YES!!! He will shoot me and I will at least get Battle Sense XP! But, alas! When he saw it was me he just turned right back around and ignored me :frowning:

(sirlagalot) #31

I personally never get over 200XP in one map, and I’ve never seen anyone else do this before, so I have no clue where all of you guys come from. Of cours, maybe it’s because I’m on the west coast of the US, so all of the servers that I have a good enough ping on the server to play without being booted for lagging up the place. Are you guys east coast or Europe or something?

By the way, I average around 350-ish for my ping. My only hope for scoring kills is being a Covert Ops and stealing uniforms, then stabbing unsuspecting nazis in the back. It works pretty well for me.

(Fusen) #32

ha normally play UK servers or anythign border line of UK so normally a nice 20-40 ping although still get shot lag :’( thinkin of making demo’s of it soon compared to other people on same servers and see if anyone knows how to get rid of it

And ive gotten around 1000 xp in goldrush ad medic and covert.
soo many cheating accusations, and yes im an xp whore :frowning:

Got 1184 once in normal 3 map campaign. The European one.

More interesting is what the highest rank you’ve got?

I have reached Colonel 2 times. The above score was one of them.

My best scores on ET are 600+XP on a 6 map campaign - not bad for a 56k’er

My gaming ISP is Jolt UK - I don’t think you can subscribe to them anymore, and although it’s pricey (£25 a month) - there’s less contention and you generally get between 50ms to 100ms better ping than say BT (but hey, I live in the sticks and have more line noise than your average city guy)

I try to avoid playing during peak times - like between 5:00pm -> 9:00pm - it just isn’t worth it - the only time I’ve ever had a ping below 200ms is @ like 4:00am in the morning on a server that’s in the UK with just a few hops. Average ping for me is anywhere between 180ms (best) to 450ms (the laggiest I’d consider playing). TBH though - ET is a funny beast and although it’s apparantly based on Q3 code (and so you’d think that the netcode would be from the same origins) because the graphical side of ET is much heavier than RtCW so it takes a bit more tweaking to get the game to a ‘stable’ state for a 56k player.

I found that FPS causes more issues than anything - I cap my FPS @ 43 always - I even check on the server I’m playing and get a list of valid cvar values - if I can get away with capping FPS to 30FPS then I’m laughing - it’s a much smoother ride. Also, it seems that if you try to play on a server where the admin has changed the default sv_fps then forget it - don’t even bother trying to play. I also now run ET in a windowed mode (960x720) - this seems to ease the FPS strain a little. If you use an nVidia card, make sure you have the overclocking externsions installed so you can alter the default settings for OpenGL - there is a good utility callled NVhardpage - use this to change your default GL rendering options to the minimum - speed is everything here. Disable things like vsync (although this causes a littel tearing) and disable sync every frame.

As for ping, well I generally use the following settings to begin with;

I run Windows 2000 with Sygate personal firewall - I’ve disabled alot of NT’s default listening services (Messenger for starters) because they steal bandwidth - I block most windows services and all ICMP requests - basically have the machine in ‘stealth’ mode - trying to keep network traffic to a minumim. I also cap my connection speed @ 45,000 - sometimes I used to get a connection rating of 49,000 but tbh, it’s not stable, 45,000 is

ET Settings:

cl_packetdup 0 (only send me one copy of a packet)
cl_maxpackets 15 (work you way up - 22 and 26 are sweet spots for me )
snaps 20 (if you need to change this, change server - it’s too heavy on the juice)
rate 3600 for choppy RX and smoother TX - if you can get this to around 5200 then your laughing - mix that with a cl_maxpackets of 26 and an cl_timenudge 0 and you start to be able to play as a rambo medic :open_mouth:

My understanding is that if your playing on an unlagged server you should be careful about setting your cl_timenudge - a timenudge of -20 might get your lag down a bit, but makes your accuracy a bit more ‘random’ - I try to play with it set to 0.

My best ‘trick’ is this (and you should really be running ET in ‘windowed’ mode for this to work properly) - when you go to a server and there seems to be alot of lag, break out in to windows with ET still running and disconnect from your ISP - now reconnect and go back in ET. When you reconnect things will be choppy or a few minutes - within 2 minutes of reconnction there is always a connection interrupted - I think somekind of handshake must go on at a low level because it always happens. Hopefully you’ll find that your connection is better - try it again if not because this method really does work for me.

On ETPro - althoug it says that changes won’t take effect for things like /rate - they do, but after a few seconds - I find ETPro the hardest for adjusting settings and getting a good game though tbh.

Finally - it’s not so much your ping thats ‘key’ (although it’s massively important really), it’s the smootheness of you connection that counts on 56k (imho anyway) -you might get a ping of 180ms for about 5 seconds and then have it jump to 380ms but that’s no good tbh - you’ll spend most of your time dying and trying to shoot ppl from long distances - no - the goal for a 56k’er is to get a consistant connection - even if it’s 380ms all the time, at least you can get used to it and can compensate with your aim.

Sorry this is so long, but I like to try to help fellow 56k’ers

Wow, huge thanks for the settings guide, evilsock. This really clears up a lot of confusion for me about what cvar settings to use :). Hopefully i’ll be seeing a steady 300-350ms soon. Thanks a lot evilsock!

Think that mose people who plays campains and whants a high xp goes axis.

I got my highest XP on allied, though. Strange…
