Just me or are the melees and their respective reactions really bad?

Everytime I try to melee someone it turns into this wonky swing fest, and once you do hit them they fall down slide around on the gorund so you can’t shoot them then pop right up and kill you.

As well, the slide tackle when you hit someone they auto aim RIGHT AT YOUR HEAD! what the hell is the deal with that!?

“Developer diary container city.” (I hope no one need the vid you should know what I’m talking about.) Paul Wedgwood runs into the health command post just after “blowing the gate” () and melees a guy straight to his effing face. There’s an epic thump and he falls on his ass, it’s great. so uh yeah… what happened to that?

I haven’t gotten into any kind of trouble with melee.

The slide auto aiming to the head? That’s probably your imagination.

Is it just me or is _______ really bad

Fill blank in with virtually any gameplay aspect of Brink

(GrieverXVII) #4

i totally agree, most of you seem to have followed brink for awhile and have seen much more than i even know. i just bought brink on release day and i know exactly what you’re talking about, every time i melee a guy it seems like it’s harder for me to actually kill the guy while he’s down than it is for him to kill me on the ground. sometimes they fall the way you expect and sometimes they just fall in random places around you and next thing you know their raiding ur face with bullets on the ground while you look frantically for where they fell -_-

(Tinygod) #5

its worse because of the bots… once they get in close to you, theres nothing you can do, they auto lock on and circle strafe around spamming melee, you have no chance.

(Gamer2Gamers) #6

The melee is horrid especially when the guy is downed on the ground, it feels like you’re hitting air…the animations are pretty lazy but meh…i don’t what to say anymore, lol.

(Overgear) #7

I notice this. Most of the time I melee someone they go flying somewhere random and I’ll be dead before I really start shooting at them.
Sliding as well just throws them behind you which makes it tricky to aim at them again.
It works sometimes but others it’s a difficult mechanic

Because that and many things were cut from this game. Seriously look at all the old dev-dairies and they include things that aren’t in this game. The first DLC for this game isn’t going to be “new” content, its just going to be “content that was originally meant to out on release”

The controls, response time and feel are terrible. Melee is just part of that debacle. Want to drive yourself nuts? Watch the delays after you sprint, duck, zoom, unzoom, try to use F after zooming out, etc.

(peteXnasty) #10

My only issue with melee:

-no tracking assist on console makes a rifle butt or knife hard to hit with but slide tackling easy
-tracking your target after a slide tackle is super hard because they fly off in a random.direction behind you. I die often doing this.

But when you connect it feels good. I like knocking guys off the wall in sec tower.

(TheMonk) #11

i reckon just a brief period of incapacitation for teh foe that’s been knocked down would be fair… not instant shoot-kill

(Milk Lizard) #12

^^Agreed Monk.

It might be a bit sloppy, but ****, its better then Crysis 2, 1-2 melee bunts and you die, even in armor mode, makes no sense…5-40 bullets to kill someone WITH A GUN!! but 1-2 melee gun bunts and bam dead! it blows my mind, cause it uses no nanosuit power, so its not like its ultra powered or something. Plus they’re in a Nanosuit with an armored helmet!

Sorry for the Crysis 2 rant guys.

But still at least in Brink it knocks them down, its a more realistic situation. Also when the player is downed the melee kills them but still it looks and feels more realistic to me.

i haven’t had a hard time hitting people with melee (pc). i do agree that slide tackling is not always worth the effort as the enemy sometimes has the advantage over you. maybe the slide tackle should be thought of as a finishing move rather than an opening attack. maybe we are using it in a way SD didn’t intent. it would suck if you get knocked down first thing and don’t have a chance. everyone would just slide tackle first thing. basically we would have the equivalent of the panic knife from call of duty. just some thoughts.
