Just bought RedEye... any quick tips to get me started?

As the title says. What do I need know?

Some specific things I’d like answered:

  • On what maps is RedEye most effective?

  • What are the best tactical uses of the Smoke Grenade?

  • I have a G41 Adept Sniper loadout card. It has a Grandeur, but more pertinent to this question, the augments are Quick Slash, Chopper, and Try Hard. How effective is Smoke as a lead-in to crazy knife assaults in Close Quarters? Would I be better off standing behind the smokescreen firing in or trying to take an enemy by surprise with a knife attack?

  1. Pretty much every map with long sight lines, such as all 3 Chapel objectives or Bridge 2nd objective.
  2. Most of time, it’s adequate to just smoke yourself behind cover and shoot at unaware enemies. If you’re attacking, you can help your engis by smoking the EV or a bombsite.
  3. I recommend you use a PDP loadout, since it’s pretty much broken right now. I personally prefer the P52 since it has drilled, but all 3 of them are perfectly useable. Also, knifing in smoke can hardly be considered viable in “real” gameplay.

Please, please, take your teammates into consideration when you smoke.

Be calm when hip firing the Granduer. Do not spam and you will still be accurate in CQC,

-use the PDP before they nerf it.
-use your smoke to help your team. Just try throwing it at random interesting things at first and see what happens, remember which smokes helped and which ones were bad.
-try to deny areas of the map, a basic example is smoking under the bridge on defender side in the first objective of Trainyard and sniping people trying to go through the river.

-Be aware of Redeyes on the enemy team; your smoke can be counter-productive if it helps an enemy.
-Smoke can be very helpful if you want to run in with your knife, but enemies will still see you up-close, along with your red glowing “eye.” Try to approach from unsuspecting directions.
-Smoke can be used to obscure enemies’ line of sight, and force them to move further out of cover to be able to see. Also good for blocking machine-gun nests.
-Get in the habit of periodically switching your thermals on for a quick moment and then off again. You can catch a quick spot on an enemy, even if you don’t have a window to engage them. It also helps the team.

Never buy vassili

Ask for ammo right after spawn. In 90% of all situations i ran out of ammo on both weapons i was Red eye… and still was getting kills standing in smoke with knife.

Don’t stand in smoke where it’s possible. Because every Fletcher, Nader, Fragger, Arty and Kira like to fire directly in the cloud. Hiding behind smoke cloud will save you many times.

Kukri doesn’t make you run faster than pistol.

Kill low level Vassili 3 times - in long range with rifle, in mid range with pistol, in close range with knife. Throw smoke at them and watch how they waste ammo at it or run away and hide like little kittens.

Make sure you’re in closer distances than you would be with say Vassili, he excels at medium range. Constantly be moving, don’t sit in just one spot, you should almost at all times be moving with your team. Do not be afraid to do the objective yourself, you can cover yourself with smoke to assist in this and can cover allies doing objectives as well. With the smoke, think before you use it, consider if it will be more a hindrance to the enemy or to your allies.

Don’t be afraid to use the smoke in a seemingly useless area (away from things) to trick people into thinking someone may be there or going that way, works well. The GSR is my personal favorite weapon on him, though I can also use the Dreiss. Don’t get too used to the PDP since it will get nerfed again, though also I think it’s the only weapon that doesn’t suit his playstyle compared to his other two options since he really isn’t a sniper like Vassili.

Edit Oh and especially when you get used to him play him when he’s in free rotation, people will underestimate you and assume you’re just playing him because he’s in free rotation and have no idea how he works. My performance especially goes up then lol.

@reacti0N @Dawnrazor @SaulWolfden

So the Grandeur just became a bit more accurate, while they increased the recoil of the PDP with the new update. Are they about even now or do you guys still think the PDP is OP? XD

(SaulWolfden) #10

I despise using the PDP on Redeye, I think it goes completely against his playstyle. GSR feels more like a lazer now in regards to my opinion on that.

(pinkOrchid) #11

Lots of good tips here. I think you should stick to the grandeur. I do however prefer the card with guardian angel and bomb squad both of those are very useful. Guardian angel against the arty’s and what not. But bomb squad is secret good tech. You will know the exact location of nader players for example and you will never step on a proxy mine again. That card also gives you the stiletto for extra speed and the m9.

also. team-up with other red-eyes. and remember the best counter to redeye is redeye. opposing redeyes sometimes get careless with their smoke, you can see them and gun them down quite easily.

I still personally prefer using the PDP, though now you have to be slightly more reserved in your shots. The biggest argument against using the Grandeur is probably the horrible ironsight on it. IIRC the devs did say they would maybe replace those with red dot sights on both the Grandeur and the Dreiss, but that’s evidently never come through.

As a Redeye main and a Grandeur and Caulden/1911 player g75 loadout, my advice is to use the IR alot, and iron sights. Sometimes even if you are unable to get to shoot the enemy team, marking them for your team with the goggles helps a great deal. I tend to use the IR and pan left and right looking for white and movement. Hiding behind the smoke is a great strategy, but one I like to do is throw it in choke points and hide far away, then pick off enemies as they walk around the smoke or try to knife me in there, even though I’m probably right behind them >:). If you are low on health smoking(no not the cancer causing kind) and running away to heal can save your life.

Another advice is that you might be like me and have colorblindness, so the red markers are nigh impossible to see. If so I suggest you use the guide here: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/18416/colourblind-tutorial-guide

Even if you are not colorblind, changing the color of the markers and enemy health, might still be helpful. That being said, I’m not a sniper, but more of a mid-range aggressive marksman when it comes to Redeye who will sometimes try to snipe if the opportunity arises and a dern Kira, my achilles heel, is not present. Also Redeye can be very useful for teammates, like guarding delivery points in objective/stopwatch, or covering your team while they ev repair. Be mindful of your team as well, they do not have IR goggles and the smoke can obstruct them. Hope that helps.

Wait you have the quick slash, chopper load out? Melee only ez game ez life.
I don’t actually know, I haven’t played red eye much (only when I was low level and not very good on free weekend). But I saw kAndyREW try it and managed to do pretty well. Flank flank flank.
