just an idea

i reckon DB should do a “design a skin comp” and the winning skin gets added to the game as a code or as part of an event, i for one cant design for shit, but im sure there are plenty in the game that can

Yes, a steam workshop,
Could benefit DB with more content, made through SDK. Why hasn’t this been implemented yet? Who knows?

TF2 had some official maps, made by fans, also some unlockables and skins were fan made-turn-official.

It’s a lot of work to create an SDK, and I would much rather they work on getting the game polished up and adding new features.

Well, it’s UE3, from what I understand it’s actually not that bad. It’s believe just the same SDK the devs use to actually make the game, the standard UDK program with DB assets, though I could be wrong.
Of course if SD wanted to make their own SDK like the in-game Portal 2 one it would be more difficult.

Besides, an SDK is honestly probably the best thing they could do to this game in terms of increasing popularity, more than any polishing in the world.

I mean, I want their priority to be getting the game out of “beta.” Once they fully release, trust me, I will be the one demanding an SDK.

“Out of beta”.
Right… Sooner HL3 gets released.

(SnakekillerX) #7

Well, people do complain a lot about things like balance, and bugs, etc… It is perfectly normal for it to still be in Beta.

I’m in no rush to see it exit Beta status as having this title means they are aware there is still improvements to be made, instead of them thinking it is a finished product. While I’d like content to be more regular, mostly in the forum of maps.

New maps change the dynamic of how you might play the current mercs, and while I want to see Turtle released one day because I’m already aware of his existence, I’m not that interested in the continuation of more and more mercs being added to the game.

Just fix the bugs… and bring on the maps!

Doing a full game SDK that gives everyone tools to create mods that are properly supported by the devs and are functioning during every new release is a lot of effort.

Releasing part of an SDK that allows you to easily make skins or maps and load them up in your local client for personal testing (not made available online) is remarkably simple. That’s a distinction I’ve tried to make multiple times when asking about a Map SDK, which requires very little, and it always gets brushed aside as if I’m asking for a full game SDK with steam workship integration.

It’s definitely a “we don’t care to do that now” situation as opposed to it requiring a ton of time. Zip up the tools that aren’t default UE3, post the settings used and update the client to be able to load up non-stock maps and you’re good to go. Same for skins. There might be some unknown complication that hampers this but it’s never been spelled out to me and instead they sit behind the, “it would take us a year to make a full SDK” even though I’ve never once asked for a full SDK and been VERY specific with what I’ve wanted. It’s a real sore spot for me.

(TR_Kama) #9

i wasnt referring to an SDK i was referring to peoples design skills using photoshop etc (but a skin sdk would be cool )there is this guy Sovrakha on youtube who designs his own and i just thought if something like this was possible, im the same as SnakekillerX and many others i would rather see content first and build SDK as a later project

check out Sovrakha his skins are really good

the winning design can be sent to SD DB and then they can transfer it into the code the possibilty is endless Halloween skins, easter skins, thanks giving skins, the list is endless

like making maps in GTKRadiant ?

you can use UDK to make blockouts for maps in DB. pop a few out for us if it’s so easy, I found it difficult, but then, I’m old

(K1X455) #11

There’s just too many bugs and instabilities at the moment for SD to create an SDK…

It’ll be another can of worms for them if they’re still struggling to fix recurring bugs.

Wtf man?
We’re talking WEAPON SKINS here, and Sovrakha has made just an ICON for a loadout card.
You missed the point of the video

yeah i shouldnt have put “skins” i didnt miss the point of the video im aware it isnt a skin it is just the Loadout card, but it shows the potential that can/could be achieved
