Just a small detail

Can we change the name of Phantoms sword to Ninjato? Katans have curved blade and where fro Samurai, Phantom is more of a Ninja and hsi weapon resembles more a Ninjato.
IF you played Metal gear revengance you mgiht have ntocied that theey Refer to Sam as Samurai, and Rdin mor as Cyborg Ninja, and Phantoms sword is very similar to raidens, minus the god know what tehcnology to cut everything in half

(Mr-Penguin) #2

Phantom can call his blade what he wants to call it.

(ASTOUNDINGSHELL) #3

@derpypenguinz19 Ok. Just saying…

(darlingClaymore) #4

That would make it lose its fame, who wants to use a ninjato… a katana is much more fun.

What makes it more fun to you, the name or the actual weapon? The problem is that everyone has heard the name “katana” and the name itself has a mystique associated to it. Whether the weapon is actually a katana or not is irrelevant to most people, they only care about the “cool factor” of the name. But the name they gave it doesn’t change the fact that it is not a katana by any definition, hence not as cool as if it was the real thing (or even a modernized version of it) because right now it looks like it’s trying to be cool by taking on a cool name it doesn’t deserve.

Call the damn thing a sword…

There are differend variations of Katanas, not only just one.

Curved, slightly curved and not curved at all. You know, differend smiths have build differend ones and also time period has to be taken account.
However non-curved katanas are rare.

Also Ninjato is wakizashi. The term Ninjato is also created much later and is more likely created by movies.
Ninjas did use normal katanas and wakizashis, but more commonly weapons that are much more easier to conceal, as ninjas were assasins, spys and infiltrators.

Also it would not matter if its called. Since “ninjato” is used exactly like katana. Also it would not matter in game as the phantom just trusts and swings with it rather than doing any martial arts moves or even basic sword attacks.

Speaking about odd weapon names.
If Katana and ninjato terms are wierd, then how wierd is that Messer is classified as a knife, even tho it can be as long as greatsword. (only reason why its classified as knife, atleast in medeaval times is because of the similarity to knifes edge and handle)

Wasn’t there also something about people not being allowed to carry swords in towns (or was it that the common man that weren’t allowed to carry swords, I can’t remember.), but you could carry a Messer (or Großesmesser), since it was “just” a big knife?[/left]

(darlingClaymore) #8

Who cares, nobody wants to use a ninjato, every wants to use a katana. Its like saying I don’t want a coke, I want clubsoda with coke flavor.

(Grave_Knight) #9

It’s not a ninjato, neither is it a katana for that matter. A ninjato is a short, straight, single edged sword (also is a modern invention as there is no historical records of it prior to the 20th century). The katana is specifically a large saber forged with ancient Japanese techniques (it even requires to be made from refined folded steel rather than better quality modern steel). A better name for it would be a Messer or Kriegsmesser, but since no one knows what that means I rather just call it a Sword.

Yeah, some countries, possibly almost all european countries did not allow peasants to carry weapons, however since messer was classified as a knife peasants could carry them to almost anywhere.

Wait? Really? Since I learned what messer meant I joked about the German idea of a knife compared to Crocodile Dundee’s idea of a knife but I didn’t think it was accurate!! XD

Tch. That’s not a Tanto, that is clearly a shortsword. Tanto are under twelve inches (and like the katana require to be made a very specific way to be called a tanto). Also, I’d imagine the sword Phantom carries is better than that stainless steel piece of crap (might as well just bludgeon people with a metal rod).

Actually Phantom’s sword is probably closer to the Apokatana from Zombie Tools.

Though the Apokatana has a more ergonomic grip.

Guys, we all know that Phantom is weeb trash. He’s going to call it a katana whether it is or not.

Yup, people were circumventing stupid weapon control laws long before fire-arms it seems. XD
