June 15 - June 22 Crafting Week

(Melinder) #1

So, as of 30 minutes before writing this, a crafting week went live, including reduced crafting costs, increased recycling earnings, and most notably, reduced crafting kit costs. That’s awesome… isn’t it? Perhaps not.

I’m not one to stir up drama, but I am quite disappointed with Splash Damage’s timing with this event. With the release of Ranked Season 3 came a purchasable Obsidian Aura card worth 200,000 credits, or alternatively, $9.99 USD. For some players (myself included), 200,000 credits takes a lot of time to gather up, far longer than Ranked Season 3 is set to last, meaning I myself am basically locked into having to pay the $9.99 if I wish to have the card.

For those who are perhaps near the 200,000 credit mark, and find it achievable within the time frame, they will likely save up until they can purchase the card.

Wait, whats this? AN RKO OUT OF NOWHERE!

Much like an RKO, the crafting event also appeared “out of nowhere”. This event is something that we don’t see very often, and is an amazing opportunity to try and craft those cobalts you’ve always wanted. The only problem is, some of us just spent all of our credits on the Aura card, and if not, we’re either still in the process of saving for the Aura card, spending them on Equipment Cases, or simply crafting Cobalts (or other rarities) normally.

I feel as if this event is a shady practice, a way to somewhat force players into paying real-world money to get in on the action while they still can, hence why I have a particular issue with Crafting Kits seeing a reduction in costs. To me, it seems unfair to spring this on your players without any time to prepare.

I hope you can see where I am coming from with this, as you’ve left us in an awkward position.

Of course, this is very a F2P-esque move, but SD isn’t exactly known for making these kind of moves in the past with their other events, it’s simply a repeated offense with their crafting weeks. Ridiculous pricing is totally fine, they need to make money somehow, but moves like this that pressure you into paying for things by smothering you with content and deals is simply wrong.

The bait and switch technique of content release is a shady practice.

Welp, I’m stuck in summer camp, and I’m also piss poor, so this really doesn’t affect me.

Good analysis though, you should major in economics.

this is not shady

does those loadout makes you better at playing the game?

no?

then it is not shady.

if you think skin matters you are seriously playing the wrong game.

You could say the same thing about games such as CSGO, LoL, DotA2, and you would be dead wrong. You may not care about what colour your gun is, or what colour your clothes are, but many players do. I mean come on, I like shiny things.

Less than a month ago i gave up and spent all my credits on 10 case bundles and spent everything as there was nothing on horizon to suggest any of what we are now seeing was going to take place ( crafting week/ Obsidian) converted to fragments ect .

Feel sick as a pig now and TBH considering sacking this game .

Yes, textbook carrot (obsidian) + stick (no more creds? buy craft kits bros) manoeuvre here.

And talking about crafting…

9 months ago you released a video stating that thanks to crafting week you’ve collected tonnes of data and along with our feedback crafting will be improved.

An identical band aid fix 9 months later is not an improvement, it’s another fishing expedition.

I predict that crafting will be like the upgrading Gen 1 cards situation, they’ll simply wait another year and say ‘No not gonna happen’.

@stayfreshshoe If you could take this thread down, that would be appreciated. There were a lot of variables that I had not taken into account whilst writing this up. Taking a step back and looking at Dirty Bomb in it’s entirety, I can understand and fully appreciate the decisions made.

Pretty much. Finally could blow up most of my 1.2M credits and got me a 383 cobalt Sparks. Not the crappy fragments one but the one that locks like a leather clad domina for team meats and like a kinky nurse for enemies. So I’m happy with the event.

(HammerOfDawn21) #11

This is not shady. They are in no way obligated to give us crafting week and they gave us one even though they said they didn’t have any plans of doing it again in the near future.

No worries @Melinder
