Jump firing

(CCP115) #1

I’m quite confused with it in the game’s current state.

Am I meant to be jump firing to dodge bullets? If so, it’s only really practical at very close ranges.

Am I not meant to be jump firing? If so, then why is the penalty so damn low?

Is it meant to be a part of the game? As it stands it takes zero skill to press spacebar and hold mouse 1, so what’s it meant to do?

If anybody knows precisely what jump firing is meant to be in this game and could tell me, that would be great. When I try to jump fire, I just feel like I’m disadvantage myself, but then some shotgun users (Aura, Proxy) tend to spam it to the point of rage.

Who knows. On the one hand the game feels like tactical mil-sim with its spread and recoil patterns, and on the other hand people bunny hop around like crazy with shotguns.

Precisely my problem, i don’t know whether jump firing is meant to be like that or not.

Omg, I got to make a video on this. But to answer your question now whenever you jump and fire make sure to ADS, it tightens your spread a lot. That being said those people who are bunny-hopping everywhere are doing it wrong.

HOWEVER! when you land there appears to be a bug where your spread is increased to the maximum even if you’re ADS or not. So overall don’t jump and shoot unless you’re really close.

Jumping into the air sets you on a set path of motion actually making you easier to shoot if the person shooting you knows these patterns.

There are two components two every fight in Dirty Bomb aim and movement. Jumping is a movement attempt to screw up your opponents aim so it can work well in the right situation especially if it is followed by a wall jump to create an “air strafe” but make sure to ADS when jumping to tighten your spread.

Bunny hopping while shooting is bad, if for no other reason than it looks ridiculous. That shouldn’t be encouraged, it makes DB look like a joke among shooters.

Depends on how you do it. If you know how, wall hopping correctly can massively increase your speed, so you can use it to manuver around a battle pretty easily. IF you mean mindedlessly jumping around like an idiot…only if you get super desperate.

Am I the only person who loves the fact that someone has a Sawbonez avatar making a “On one hand…” statement?

A lot of people are ignorant of the fact that there is a significant Cone of Fire bloom that all weapons (besides melee) experience while jumping. In that sense, you are making a gamble or a tactical decision: Do you jump and possibly evade a bit of enemy fire, at the cost of making yours less accurate; Or do you stay on the ground to maintain optimum accuracy.

In a lot of cases, and especially at the ranges most average players like to engage at, jumping is double beneficial: The accuracy loss isn’t so significant that it ruins your aim, and the enemy frequently can’t track you well because they are not accustomed to shooting targets moving in multiple dimensions.

btw to all those suggesting ADS when jumping - this is still bugged afaik and will result in maximum bloom when you land.

Precisely why I use the default crosshair, pun very intended.

From what I’ve seen/felt, riding out the ADS after landing cancels the bloom; So I almost suspect the max bloom was done on purpose to punish players trying to do too much at once.

Another annoying behavior I’ve also discovered is that while quick-scoping(-ish) with the PDP, a single left click often results in 3 shots, with the first and second being at max COF bloom. Very obnoxious and very ineffective way to work through a firefight. Uses up 1/3rd of magazine, usually don’t get any hits from the extra shots.

DB is designed to be a very mobile game. It is NOT a “mil sim” at all so if you’re looking for realism you won’t find it in DB haha. Yes, you are supposed to be able to jump and shoot and be a bit more effective than you would be in Arma. However, there is a pretty severe penalty when doing so. When comparing this penalty to other games it doesn’t seem very severe but DB requires consistent tracking and has a higher TTK than most games and headshots are super important in winning fights. So if you’re jumping a lot you won’t be winning those fights against players who know how to aim due to the penalty.

So yes, it’s in the game and useable and sometimes it’s even beneficial when used right. But if somebody is firing while jumping the whole time, well, they won’t do very hot.
