July 29th today. Dlc tomorrow? (if you believe MTV)

(Spendlove) #1

Please, please, please can someone official say if there is any chance of Agents of Change dropping tomorrow? I am burning up with excitement here.

Elton John and Kiki Dee say - “Don’t go breaking my heart”. Make it so SD make it so.

Lack of official information is killing me!

I know the dlc will be heavily publicised before release so I am not exactly hopeful.

Any chance of a tiny glimmer or morsel of hope Badman?

Last couple of things they said about the release date were roughly as follows:
“If you didn’t read it from SD or Bethesda it’s not official.”
“SD will know ahead of time when the DLC is going to be released and there will be an announcement. It won’t just suddenly appear.”

I am paraphrasing a fair bit. You’d need to search the various DLC threads to find the actual quotes. The fact that we’re seeing the maps on the stats site and pics of the new cheevos are surfacing means that they’re probably getting close, but I’m pretty sure as soon as there’s a solid release date Bethesda will start advertising it.
They probably want to know when it’s coming out just as much as you do and there is nothing to be gained from hiding the date from us (and lots of publicity to be gained from advertising the date).

It’ll be along soon. And hopefully it’ll have been worth the wait. Better a bug free, polished DLC with balance patches than a buggy rushed DLC that requires months of patching.

patience is a virtue, a virtue is a grace, and Grace is a little girl who never washed her face! I’m not sure what that has to do with anything though. I don’t know anyone named Grace and I’m pretty sure everyone I’ve ever met washes their face every now and then at least… except maybe that homeless dude in that subway… he doesn’t look/smell like he washes anything. I wonder if his name is Grace?

Everything I’ve heard is “don’t believe information unless it’s through official channels” i.e.: Not MTV. and that they’ll announce ahead of time when the DLC is going to be released.

I could go back and find all those quotes, but it’s what SD has said. Badman talked about taking everything not said through official channels with a grain of salt in one of the first MTV threads that popped up in early/mid July and one of the devs (Exedore I think?) said in the Rahdo thread that they would announce when the DLC was going to be released ahead of time.

edit: beaten

I’d love to be wrong, but I don’t think the live marketplace is updated on Saturday’s anyway and while I realize that doesn’t mean much to the PC folks, if the DLC is free for 2 weeks they probably want to release it across all platforms at the same time so one platform isn’t charged for it while another platform is still getting it for free.

That said, I wouldn’t get my hopes for Tuesday either (when the marketplace is updated) as they still haven’t announced when it’s coming out.

Again, I’d love to be wrong, I’d be too busy playing for a bit to worry about eating my words.

If I recall correctly they (Badman?) actually said that they will only release when it is ready for all 3 platforms. I’m not trawling the threads to find the quotes though, but I’m 95% sure about it.

If they were going to releasse them all “willy nilly” then PC probably would have had it ages ago because the patching / updating process on steam is far more developer friendly than the certification processes required on the other 2 platforms.

Don’t know if you’re trolling or not…but that’s a Sunday?

That would make the most sense and I’m agreeing with you, I think they’d release it across all platforms at the same time which is why I don’t think it’d be on a weekend.

That’s got to do with violating steams DLC policy. Whether that’s good or bad is a completely different discussion.
Basically EA want to sell DLC through non steam channels (ie: directly through the game) and Steam says “No! You must sell via Steam like every other Steam game that does DLC”.

I can see both sides of the coin here. Steam are selling the game and promoting it etc. They want their share of the DLC. On the other hand should EA be forced to do something a specific way to conform to Steam?

Personally I think EA are playing the victim and drama-ing it up for attention. They don’t want to share a single cent that they don’t have to.

How does this relate to Brink: it doesn’t really. Hitting “DLC” in Brink takes you to the Steam DLC page for Brink. That’s the standard way of doing things on Steam.
From what I understand Steam is fairly friendly for devs to update and fiddle their games with minimum fuss.

I know the quotes. I know how these things work. It’s just a lack of info from an official SD source confirming the release of Agents of Change is or is not now going to be released in July/August or later. July now seems a distant dream. It’s only a few weeks ago that we were champing at the bit for a June release. So all I want to know, from an official source, is will Agents of Change be released tomorrow on the 30th of July 2011 GMT and if not roughly how long a wait have we got.

It’s really not hard now to say it is or is not getting a July 2011 release is it? Saying nothing at all is a bit of a snub to the forum. Surely the dev team and publicists must now know if it is going to be out in the next three remaining days!?

Please Splash Damage, Bethseda say something to calm me down. And put the kettle on.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #11

They said if it’s not official then it’s not coming out, I don’t think the night before would be proper for the english chaps to deliver news like this. Plus they seem to be play testing the maps on each platformand have only done founders tower on PC and xbox thus far, so i’m going to say sorry to you and to myself cause I was hoping for it too.

(Spendlove) #12

You never know Big Daddy. As no one has equally said NO either then it could still be released. Just with no pre publicity or any word said to anyone. Which seems to be the way things are done round here (sadly).

Badman. I know you may well read this. Throw me a bone here!

(damcde) #13

Well NthLegion posted earlier, as well as someone on the Beth blog, that Xbox got a 4MB update that may entail the weapon tweaks the PC got (but of course no word from SD what is in that update). Also I just checked my Ps3 and Brink did not update for me when I started the game up. However the XBOX update does give me a glimmer of hope that the DLC may come out.

… but there are everywhere complaints from indie developers too, who got refused to trade over Steam too … the only thing I wanted to show is, that Steam has it’s catches too and not only M$ / Sony … we don’t really know if it would be possible to release the DLC for the PC earlier then for the consoles, even that the policies of M$ / Sony seems to be more strict … ok, the EA example was not a really good one, but I thought it should do the job …

(wolfnemesis75) #15

Well I just downloaded a 4MB Brink patch five minutes ago. So perhaps its in preparation for the DLC!
Xbox

(zenstar) #16

The other 2 platforms have nothing at all to do with Steam. Steam doesn’t care if you update for PC as long as any DLC goes through the proper channels. Look at Monday Night Combat: There have been many updates on the PC with nothing on the Xbox for ages including major content updates. Steam are quite happy with PC exclusives and/or early PC content. It just encourages more people to get the Steam version.

As for the complaints from indie devs: there are plenty of indie devs on Steam. Single dev indie houses all the way up to almost full-blown commercial houses all manage to get on. If you can’t follow their rules then don’t expect to get on their platform. There are loads of other digital distributors out there to use. Most of the complaints are likely about the cut that Steam takes. Indie devs often can’t afford the normal distribution slice of the pie. Unfortunate, but Steam needs to pay their employees too.

Either way. This is now veering off-topic as it has already been stated that they will only be releasing the DLC for Brink when it is ready for all 3 platforms so Steam’s attitude to DLC on other platforms or indie developers is really a moot point as far as this thread is concerned. Releasing across all platforms at the same time makes good marketing sense (like it or not). Now if only they’d tell us a date.

(Feel free to PM me about the Steam policy thing if you really want to discuss it, but I don’t think there’s much more to be said in that conversation - they have policies. They may be good or bad, but if you want to be on steam you must abide by the steam policies.)

i was just trolling and referring to the date thats announced ingame in the resort map.

i think its total nonsense opening just another thread of the dlc. there is no purpose. the dlc will come. creating just another thread wont bring it early.

It might show that there’s still a call from the community for more open communication and may help SD pressure Beth into letting them talk more (or may make SD realise that we want more talk if Beth aren’t the ones keeping them quiet).

TBH: it’s not the waiting that’s so bad, it’s the waiting without knowing anything that is bad. I’m not too bothered if it arrives tomorrow, next week, another month. As long as I know vaguely what’s going on (cleaning up some bugs / adding some balancing / stumbled on a cool feature that we thought should go in this dlc rather than wait) then I’m far happier to sit back and wait than I am when I just get told “There will be DLC” and then ~silence~.

(Spendlove) #19

My feelings are exactly what Zenstar said. It’s unlikely the DLC will be out this month so why not say so? Unless of course it is out this month. So why not say so?

I am afraid that silence is not golden. It’s annoying.

Some1 asked dlc? and SD said “should have an answer for you tomorrow”
