joining brushes in one

(lysek) #1

im wondering if there is way to join few brushes in one . Is it possible ?
it `d be very helpfull … for example doing very complicated object ,some gun or a porshe car , building from small brushes to make it detail ,on finish o whould like to join those together to get a final object …

and one more thing … have read some tutorials . It learn to use caulk (like no-texture in game) . But i can`t do it work like this -> http://www.wolfensteinx.com/surface/images/tutorials/caulking/map_caulk2.jpg
how is that possible ? i mean thatonly one side of a brush is textured ,and other is caulk … when i SHIFT + lmb i can get only whole brush textured … plz explaind me how do i mix those textures on 1 brush.
tnx.

ctrl + u will join brushes

they cant be concave tho, convex only. so you can’t make a car out of just one brush.

to select just a face, hit ctrl + shift + LMB on the face. to select more than one, hold ctrl + shift + alt then LMB all the faces u want to texture

you can highlight everything, then in the 2-window, right click and select Func_group. Not exactly what you said you wanted, but i think what you wanted.

make your car out of all the small peices and piece the car together. Now select all of the brushes and then turn them into a func_group and as you do that - texture all sides of the brushes as caulk. Then you can unselect the whole object, and continue to place the textures on the 1 side of all of the visible brushes. ( If you use a three button mouse…you can select the use of it in the preferences and then you can select a texture and then shift and mouse3 will place the texture on the one brush face) That will save alot of hassle.

with control+u i get the following error

CSG Merge: Merging 3 brushes.
CSG Merge: Failed - result would not be convex.

selecting faces work with modify->components->faces :slight_smile: .

can u explain how to bind it exacly? i cant find this setting in preferences … can u paste your commandlist.txt ? or just strings with tex .

ok…this is perfectly easy and helpful for alot of tasks =

  1. hold shift and left click every peice of your car untill all of them are selected.

  2. next; in the 2d window(grid) right click anywhere as long as only the car peices are selected in the 3d window

  3. scroll down the list to ‘func’ and then select ‘func_group’

  4. now, press escape and deselect everything
Now these steps made it a group…next is moving and caulking.

  5. (what I do) when I want to move my groups… I select a peice of the group - and I move it slightly, then I undo the move by pressing (ctrl+z)----at this point radiant will replace the peice you moved back to where it belongs in the group and selects the whole group for you to be able to move it or whatever as you please.

  6. Caulking…as the whole group is selected go to textures on the toolbar and select ‘common’ - within this group of textures is the ‘caulk’ texture…select that one.
All of the peices ahould turn white as caulk is now the texture. Caulk does not show up in the game so now you need to texture just the sides that you see so people won’t see thru your car.(SEE THE PREVIOUS POSTS)
