Jacks in town and he's got alot of work to do...

(ZionDelhamorte) #1

Hey all,I was about to respec one of my characters into a better Jack since i messed up a bit and I was wondering what abilities to give him for max effect.

I would love to hear your builds and the way you play your Jack so plz leave your comments and some tips if its not to much to ask…:stroggtapir:

P.S as of right now he is 18 so i have 18 points to spend…

Well which abilities you choose is really more of a personal preference thing. The way I created my uni-character was to divide up the points equally (this was before AoC, so only 4 per tree) and then decide which abilities I couldn’t go without.

The kinds of abilities that were easy choices for me were things like Lazarus Grenade, Improved Weapon Buff and EMP Grenade. You might feel differently though.

As for I play my character, I usually join a server and see what needs playing. I usually don’t pick a class that already has 2 people playing it (on a team of 8) unless it’s the Objective class.

Nexo

It’s hard to say. I find it hard to make a jack of all I want to jump in with all the time.

I personally go for most, if not all of the general abilities apart from sense of perspective, downed fire and the new one, whatever it’s called. I can’t remember if I’ve left any more out without them in front of me.

Put it this way, a jack of all is going to use all the general abilities so I think they’re nearly all essential.

I find it quite easy to come up with a good all rounder but they’re usually lacking all the fun things specific to each class so I never end up using them and log onto the character I’m in the mood for most :frowning:

I made my team-Jack be mostly useful for Objectives and Buffing.

Soldier: Molotov, Flashbang, Extra Mag
Medic: Increased Supplies 1+2, Metabolism, Improved Life Buff, Laz Nade, Health Station
Engie: Landmine, Extra Kevlar, Nerves of Steel, ComPost Upgrade, Improved Weapon Buff
Op: Homing Beacon, Caltrops, Hack Turret
Universal: Grenade Shooting, Battle Hardened, Supply Max Increase, Resupply Rate increase, Sprinting Reload, Downed Fire

Next, I’d like to make a selfish-Jack for just good ol’ butt-kicking.

for me medic is the most useful class, and the one that is often overlooked, soldier being the least useful (plant HE charge then swap class)

i think the build of the jack (light/med/heavy) makes which ability you select important too

i would go for:
the engineer buffs (both)
the medic buffs (both)
soldier scavenge
soldier kevlar (helps when planting)
soldier flashbang (very useful)
adrenalin (helps people planting)
caltrops
self resurection
field regen
lazerus
emp

maybe turrets but its 3 ability slots used and they arent THAT useful.

then most of the core abilities, i dont use slient unless its for an op/light and only use downed fire on heavies as they can take ages to get back to the fight
so:
aprint nade
sprint reload
hard as nails
supply max increase
resupply rate increase
sense of perspective

EDIT: Not sure what four DLC abilities I’m going to take. Need to test out Tactical Scanner more.

(Spendlove) #7

Building a Jack, would anyone pick a single turret skill?

(Jimmy James) #8

I don’t think I would. I’m pretty much all or nothing when it comes to turrets. It may provide a good distraction for the enemy but I’m not sure how effective it would be against high level opponents.

I wouldn’t. If you wanted to devote only one point the Light turret at endgame just isn’t worth it and 3 pts into turrets taken from your JoaT tends to hamper your ability to spec usefully into all 4 classes + Universal.

I also tend to conceptualize JoaT characters as being primarily objective focused so while on offense you’re not going to be missing the turrets cuz you’re doing the obj. While on defense you should still have mines (I wouldn’t pass on xtra mine) which are extremely useful and you are more freed up in a buffing capacity as well. I actually find my JoaT is able to buff way more as engie than my full engie spec.

(RGS) #10

I think you can have a strong 3 class build including level 3 turrets.

I like using turrets though ;).

(Stormchild) #11

For a jack of all trade, I don’t think I would go for turrets. Too expensive in points that might be needed to balance other classes.

Soldiers don’t need much poitns to be already ok, with their default molotov, I suppose. Medics need some, engies and operative need a fair amount of points too.

I have yet to make an all-rounder, for now I’m using either engy/op, or soldier/medic. I would love so much to not have to level all again and just have all the abilities for my chars. I don’t get fun out of levelling at all, like I would in a mmo. I just feel more useless.

agree with all of that.

3 ability points for decent turrets seems a waste of ability points IMO. they are too easily killed and take ages to target.

Thanks, although I have the turrets with my op/eng char, mind you  I know a few places where they can be very effective. But an all-rounder need to be very optimized with his points and that’s where the 3 points is too costly imo… But I agree that I would love to see an improvement in turrets lock-on time, even if only half a second less.
