I was posting this as a reply in another thread, but it didn’t fit there so started another one. This also may be a “no $hit” thread, but PC gamers continue to whine about not getting support or getting crappy console ports like they just don’t understand the ecomonics. Call developers sell outs if you want, but MOST of you are hypocrites if you had a chance to start a gaming developing studio from scratch and NOT support the consoles.

As we all know…“the King” is money…not the “consoles”. It’s about the all powerful dollar, or euro, or yen, or lettuce, or green, whatever you want to call it. And I’m not talking about building/buying a gaming rig vs a console
With the console install base worldwide, it’s obvious why Crytek, Splash Damage, Id, etc. etc. are now supporting consoles, they can’t miss out on the millions (or billions of dollars in sales).
I’m not sure how the breakdown of money spent on a game is split up, but say a game only sells 1,000,000 copies at full price = $60,000,000 for a console vs. 50,000,000 for a PC. Lets take BLOPs for example…it’s a cash cow. If CoD didn’t go to consoles, how much money would they have lost out on? Yes, they chose to support the console versions first, because that’s where the money is. World wide, between the 360 and PS3, there are over 20,000,000 copies sold vs. PC is only about 1 million. Hmmmmm, where would you focus your product.
Face it fellow PC gamers, game makers are focusing on consoles not because they are a better system, but it’s a better business plan. Economics run everything…supply and demand. 20 million vs. 1 million. Assuming sold at full price, $1.2 billion to split up in revenue vs. $50 million. Yeah, those numbers prove that it’s “such a horrible game” with “so many bugs you can’t shake a stick at it”. But I digress.
For all you damn pirates (dirty thieves in my opinion and should be treated as such), you’re just proving the point even more. I’m aware of piracy on consoles too, but it’s not nearly as rampant or detrimental to the business plan as PC piracy is. But yet, the community continues to whine about how they aren’t getting the support from game makers.

just joinin in, obviously everyone realises why developers do it, it doesnt mean we should be happy about it.
