Issues with Joining friends

(David the Red) #1

A few friends and I tried to join up and work on the co-op last night in an attempt to go through the paces and learn how to play the game together before being put through the multiplayer meat-grinder. Unfortunately we have yet to get it to work.

We would get either “Server not responding” or “Timed out” every time we either tried to host, run a dedicated, invited friends through the menu options, or follow each other through steam.

What we ended up doing was something akin to “Alright this one didn’t time out everyone jump in!” via skype and sometimes it would work and some times it wouldn’t.

I’ve searched the forums but am a bit inundated by the sheer amount of posts (of course I’m not helping by posting another one >_< ) but I haven’t seen it brought up in a while so I thought I would ask if anything has been done about it.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Having the exact same problem. Additionally, when looking through the server lists on 2 different computers, the lists are completely different. With no filters on either. One returns 400+ servers the other returns 290.

We can’t seem to find any servers that appear on both lists simultaneously. So not only can we not join each others games, but we can’t go old school and say “ok, join Server A… now!”

We were having the same server list issue as well. We were eventually able to log into the same server using steam “soandso is playing Brink” and then joining them, but that only worked once.

Make sure you have the proper ports forwarded – UDP ports 27015, 27016, and 8766. I have Windows Firewall off and am using an external firewall, so I’m not sure how you would go about this if you have it on or if you have a software firewall.

I was able to host a co-op campaign game last night with those ports forwarded, whereas before that they were timing out when trying to connect.

Also I was able to invite my friends by pressing “ESC” (the “L” key should work too) to bring up the game info overlay, and down near the bottom clicking “invite friends”. In that way they were able to join my game via the invite they received on Steam.

Best of luck to you!

I also have this issue as do three of my friends. Forwarding ports did not work for any of us. Yes, we checked our firewalls yadda yadda.

Tried again today to no avail. :frowning:

I got it to work. I discovered that my dumb ass forwarded the ports to the wrong IP. It worked fine after that, but everybody joining has to forward these ports. Lame, I hope this will be unnecessary in the future.
