Is Thunder Redeye's counter?

For those of you who don’t know, Thunder (or Dazzler) was almost a duo with Fragger, he had an LMG which supposedly had 80 rounds in a magazine, and fired faster. He also had concussion grenades. Here is what he looked like.

Is he Redeye’s counter? On paper it seems like it. He could spray through the smoke because of how big his magazine is, and concussion grenades would render infa-red useless? I did not have the game when he was in the game, so I don’t know.

First of all, Thunder is not Dazzler. Thunder and Fragger are offshoots of Dazzler. Dazzler is no longer anyone.

Secondly, you overestimate his 80 round mag. Sure, it’s a LOT, but the MK46 fires incredibly quickly as well.

Concussion grenades render any type of vision useless for about 2 seconds.

Overall Thunder would be good against Red-Eye because he’ll be the best merc for aggressively pushing into a group of enemies, but he’s not a ‘counter’ the way Red-Eye and Vas are to Phantom.

I did not know that about Dazzler, from a video I watched they just said they renamed him.

Dazzler had LMGs for primaries, ARs for secondaries, concs AND frags. He was very OP. They split him into Fragger, with 2 ARs, 1 LMG and frags, and Thunder, presumably with 2 LMGs, 1 AR and concs.

I feel like any merc with explosives of any sort counter Red-Eye. I found my Nader nades earlier were pretty freakin’ efficient at making the smoke dispense.

Why explosives counter smoke is beyond me, but I’m glad fairness trumps physics in this case. :stuck_out_tongue:

The explosive force pushes the smoke away.

What others have said is accurate. It does make me wonder, though; Do concussion grenades also disperse the smoke?

Dazzler was Fragger, nothing to do with Thunder. In the early days, his special ability was a flashbang grenade, hence the name. Back then, all mercs also had regular frag grenades and Thunder had his concussion grenade as his unique ability. Then the developers figured that they didn’t want frags on everyone and that the flashbang and concussion nades were too similar in effect to be the unique abilities of two distinct mercs, so they gave the frags to Dazzler, renamed him Fragger and left the concussion to Thunder.

There was also a swap between their primary weapons and their secondaries got downgraded from assault rifle and SMG to hand guns, but that is a separate story and has nothing to do with their respective names.

Actually, I think that any explosive merc is a potential counter to Red Eye. I read somewhere that a single sticky bomb is enough to wipe out all the smoke.

(_Sniff_) #10

It does. I find it really funny when Redeyes try to hide from me in smoke and I stick them and disperse their smoke at once.

This game isn’t being built off of having hardcounters. There are bad match-ups in some cases but no hard counters.

I highly disagree with the fact that a simply sticky bomb can disperse the smoke, especially since the cool down time on Fletchers sticky bombs is extremely fast.
