Is this where i say this game runs like POS and SD lied about minimum requirements?

(mortis) #21

Runs fine for me on a lesser system, other that a bit of corruption on some menus from time to time. 50 dollars well spent here…

(Niceperformancethere) #22

im glad its running well for you, its a great refreshing game. Still makes SD look pretty bad though.

(mortis) #23

TBH - so many games are released beta and then patched together later. I wish it wasn’t so, but it is…

(Artheval_Pe) #24

They did ? Oh, and maybe they should have after two years actually working on the game ? You know, working, the thing we don’t do when we play videogames.

SD does give a slag and works really fast. I’ve read a post of Treyarch explaining how they cannot patch a gamebreaking feature in multiplayer in less than a month because of this and that… A MONTH. We had our first patch within days of the release, and we can look forward to other patches next week.

And as far as the performance problems go. Yes, they are unacceptable. And yes they should be fixed as soon as possible. But we know for once that ATI is responsible (at least partially), and it’s possible that Splash Damage cannot do anything until AMD get their **** together and fix a problem on their hand, driver-side.

Damn, I wish a programmer could tell us what’s going on in these things.

(Trypsinogen) #25
You don’t think they already know they made a mess of the release?

Do you think if you guys rally together and spread enough anti-Brink that anything’s going to change?

Or is it justice you’re after? You want SD to pay for their crime?

What is it you guys actually want?

Nothing’s going to change the past. Oops. That’s done and dusted. Shame.

However, the future does look bright as SD are putting actual effort into patching and fixing their product.
Yes. I am mad. I want them to hear my anger. I want Splash Damage developers posting on this forum listening to player concerns and addressing them, doing damage control. I want them to not be able to get away with deep design flaws that have no excuse for not being addressed before launch.

I want retribution.

(theguybro) #26

OP needs a new and better computer.

And how is that useful ?

You actually want Splash Damage developpers playing nannies with us here instead of actually working on the problems ?

Wait… which design flaws ?

Yes. Any game company that isn’t stupid hires a community manager. That person is supposed to act as a conduit between the players and the development team, especially if no devs will bother to use the forum themselves.

(Brink Lags) #29
Yes they did. They did that to all of us. It’s going to happen to you /many/ more times in your life as a gamer, unfortunately, so get over it.

What’s rare is the speed of the effort SD are making to repair their game.

You can keep cluttering the forums and crying for attention, or you can go play something else you enjoy or maybe even go and hang out with friends or read a book or play guitar or go to the theater or… well, the possibilities are endless!

All you need to know is spending your time spreading negativity online is bad for your soul, brother.

It’s not the end of the world.
Repair their game? This game never should’ve released. It feels like it needs another 2 years in development.

(fearlessfox) #30

SO I guess you missed the fact that they’ve patched it twice already and the game’s only been out a few days?

Or the fact that they’ve told us they’re aware of all the faults and are working hard to fix them, and that they’ll be giving us some free DLC to help compensate for the shoddy launch?

What do you want them to do, slit a vein and have you tell them when to stop?

Hyperbolic tosh. The game is extremely playable for many, many people. Those with issues are now in the minority.

I spent three hours playing earlier, the first two games rubber banded like crazy. A couple played a little freaky. The majority payed just as smoothly as any other game on the network.

There are a few kinks. A few kinks does not justify your continued aggression.

Here is a short list of the things Brink lacks that make it a bad game:

 1. Fun
 2. Polish
 3. Class Diversity
 4. Class Depth
 5. Combat Depth
 6. Overall Game Depth
 7. Pleasing aesthetics
 8. Good graphics and overall well-optimized system
 9. Well designed, tactically interesting maps
 10. Parkour-promoting maps
 11. A game where most of the maps don’t end up with the defending team easily entrenching themselves and :heart::heart::heart:-blocking or spawn camping the attacking team
 12. A Co-Op game that actually promotes team communication instead of actively inhibiting it
 13. Interesting, noticeable-while-playing character customization
 14. A good variety of maps
 15. A game that doesn’t crash all the time
 16. A game that everyone can actually get running
 17. Class balance
 18. A game that has been playtested before launch
 19. A game not shipped out in a beta state
 20. A game that provided a demo
 21. Parkour that doesn’t feel clunky and cause the player to lose momentum whenever they use it

I could keep going…If only I had the time to count all of the ways that this game is lacking.

(fearlessfox) #32

1) Fun - I had more fun in the last three hours of playing Brink than I did in the last five years of playing other FPS. That’s the absolute truth.

2) Polish - The game’s menus and general set-up is /slick as hell/. It needs technical sheen, sure, but all this stuff is fixable and is being fixed.

3) Class Diversity - Classes are diverse enough.

4) Class Depth - clases are deep enough

5) Combat Depth - combat has plenty depth

6) Overall Game Depth - game will be added to with DLC as time passes.

7) Pleasing aesthetics - the aesthetics are brilliantly stylised.

8) Good graphics and overall well-optimized system - Graphics /are/ good. Optimization needs work.

9) Well designed, tactically interesting maps - Check!

10) Parkour-promoting maps - Agreed, more parkour centric maps would be nice. Guess what, DLC is going to fix this"

11) A game where most of the maps don’t end up with the defending team easily entrenching themselves and :heart::heart::heart:-blocking or spawn camping the attacking team - Has honestly only happened to me twice out of around 15 games.

12) A Co-Op game that actually promotes team communication instead of actively inhibiting it -
the entire game is set up so that every action is guided toward benefiting the OBJ or your team in general. I do think they could use some voice commands like in TF2 (“Medic!”, Get to the Objective!", etc…")

13) Interesting, noticeable-while-playing character customization - Check!

14) A good variety of maps - DLC incoming, check!

15) A game that doesn’t crash all the time - Hasn’t crashed once for me!

16) A game that everyone can actually get running - Yep, played 15+ matches this evening.

17) Class balance - in place, very balanced. GG!

18) A game that has been playtested before launch - Can’t change the past. Can rely on the fact that it’s being fixed now.

19) A game not shipped out in a beta state - Stop crying over history, your tears will only make your face sore.

20) A game that provided a demo - I don’t see why they couldn’t have released a demo. They didn’t though. Oh well!

21) Parkour that doesn’t feel clunky and cause the player to lose momentum whenever they use it - It doesn’t and it doesn’t. Learn to use it properly.

Ok, time for bed…

(Niceperformancethere) #33

20) A game that provided a demo - I don’t see why they couldn’t have released a demo. They didn’t though. Oh well!

They didnt release a demo could it would run like ass and then no one would want to buy it.

(Salvo) #34

The thing some people forget about minimum requirements is the minimum part of the name. Minimum means you can run the game it says nothing abut running it well, that is why they put recommended requirements on the box too.
1) Fun - I had more fun in the last three hours of playing Brink than I did in the last five years of playing other FPS. That’s the absolute truth.

Not exactly, but I had a similar feeling. And yet I played A LOT of different FPS in the last three years.

 1. A game that doesn’t crash all the time
 2. A game that everyone can actually get running
 1. A game that has been playtested before launch
 2. A game not shipped out in a beta state

15 & 16 : It will come in time.
18 & 19 : Maybe you are unable to realise it, but the game has been in testing phase for eight month now. And it shows when you play it, as the number of little details and tweaks that make the game actually work is pretty amazing.
By the way, I played the game last summer when it was in alpha or beta state and it seemed to me shippable (I’ve played games in way worse state after launch). It’s just that no developper can find every problem during beta, especially those linked to having a massive amount of players from all around the world playing your game. It’s not possible. No more than guessing that AMD was going to screw your game with their (latests) drivers.

So, now, it’s in bad shape for some people, like a lot of games are just after launch. We just need to wait. Hell, it is in way better shape than the first two S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games even a month after launch !

(Karait) #36

Funny how some members of the community are willing to stand up for a title, even though developers and publishers treat us paying customers like idiots. Don’t get me wrong, I truly love Splash Damage, or rather loved. After giving me a title that took three thousand hours off my life, they were my only developer with a “legendary” status and Brink was always going to be a natural successor as my main game.

Fast forward. I think it is obvious they knew on release their game wouldn’t run properly on ATI cards. They never bothered to tell, did they? ATI’s fault one might say, but I’m not buying it. The developer has to take responsibility for his product. If they aware of it, they should have at least warned us. Actually, they shouldn’t have released it when wasn’t playable on ATI, but guess what, they even released it a week early claiming it was so ready.

The worst part is Splash Damage wouldn’t admit it. If someone came out and said “Ok, we messed up. We knew it wouldn’t work but Bethesda wanted money in so we had to release it early. And, umm, yeah, we’ll try to fix it up.” Hell, “We stole your money, you know business as usual. Buy Nvidia.” would have been better than saying nothing and instead flashing all those useless “8+ outta 10” reviews (why not boast ratings from some major reviewers, huh?).

All this criticising is not productive one might say. Hell, it’s productive for me, I vent my frustration. I just had a 50 euros stolen from me. An all-legit theft I might add, and by a trusted company. Why should anyone who comes here to vent the anger be treated as some lesser species? Just because the Brink Defence Squad are ok with being F’d up the A doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it and be quiet about it.

And please, I don’t care if other products were released in even worse state. It is a multiplayer-only game, and even when running it in low-res, fugly mode on 5850 I don’t achieve MP smoothness. And please don’t tell me it’s my rig that sucks. I’ve run all recent shooters with no problems at all, and Brink is not some technological masterpiece that should have put it down on its knees (hell, it looks like a 10-year game on the settings I downgraded it to).

All in all, gratz SD on ending our little honeymoon. Hope you’re enjoying the money. Hell, I’m so surprised to see that something actually worked better under Activision.

PS. The game is actually pretty damn good.

(Steinernein) #37

The only legendary developer is Blizzard.

That being said, Brink runs fine for me , so I admittedly can’t understand the complaints. Considering that SD already addressed the said complaints I don’t really know what else to say. They already said : Free DLC + more patches coming up (the DLC is suppose to release in June?) . That’s pretty much admitting that the game needs work.

And gamespy gave the game 4 out of 5 stars, oh well.

(GR0MIT) #38

Like they sold you every other game in an unfinished state, every game is unfinished beause there comes a point in developement where the devs have to say ok this the best we can do, WE HAVE DEADLINE so lets ship and patch it later with the communiites support and suggestions (allthough we’ll ignore the babies like Niceperformancethere, his a famous baby with zero patience). and we’ll punish those that don’t use nvidia.

(raib) #39

If the game runs fine for you, why post in threads like this? You cannot possibly deny this game had a bad launch and has a lot of performance issues to be fixed.

I think I’ve said it before, but the worst kind of a forum member you can have is a rabid fanboy.

(Kurushi) #40

OP, you’re on a 5770 like me. What do you expect from that piece of crap :stuck_out_tongue:
