Is this real life? - EU Servers

(Ctrix) #1

Today I logged into the game as per usual. Imagine my surprise when the server list was completely empty. No amount of refresh made any appear in the list.
So then I disabled the checkboxes. And I got this.

Are we seriously out of servers? What is happening?

(sentimentalDime) #2

My conclusion is so far that Nexon refuses to spend a dime on server maintenance.

(Trickster) #3

Currently maintenance on the servers before the next update so the game is down for a while.

News post about it: http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/20085/scheduled-game-update-november-12th-2015#latest

Maintenance for EU servers all afternoon to evening? Seriously? Seriously?
3pm to 8pm? So the time literally everyone is going to want to play video games during a normal weekday.
Why not do it the next day at 10am, when literally nobody is playing anyways (seriously, I tried once, you can’t get a full game)
Also why do I have to go to the forum to see that. Put a popup in the main menu. It’s not rocket science.

Timezones. At this moment both Nexon and SD people are at work. I’m also in the EU region and I know it sucks but someone somewhere always will get the short end of the stick.

Still it’s better than in Hearthstone, where updates (like the new adventure today!) drop around 6pm GMT, massive amounts of people want to play and the EU servers just give up. It’s happened every goddamn time and Blizzard just doesn’t care.

Same here, i guess waiting for the update to finish the download

It is the next day @ 7 am were NEXON server base is.
California,prime time is not for many hours.

Don’t mix everything here : They’re doing a game and a strong server update right now. Both can require proper man work in the process, not to mention their attention if anything goes wrong. So putting this during the day is perfectly understandable. That’s not some regular maintenance work that can be automated, if they happen one day hopefully.

SD crews are UK based so this does not help somehow because they’re one hour “late” than most of Europe. And I suppose that the morning is used to wrap up the whole thing.

If they need to fix crap, they will do it without paying attention to what time it is. Rather having some hours downed servers than bugged or broken crap for days.
You’re acting like Nexon is making it on purpose to annoy people and laugh: “Hahaha, you want play? Skrew you!”

(Ctrix) #10

Clearly you have no idea how updating stuff works. Here’s a hint, they knew in advance to announce it.

(Faraleth) #11

When maintenance begins, all empty servers are immediately shut down and then games that are already running will shut down as soon as the match ends (this means people aren’t booted).

Announcements were all over social media, the official news feed, the forum announcements and the subreddit. The game is essentially on one big mega-server for the login’s and so everyone’s client MUST update at the same time - this is not done on a region-by-region basis, so no matter what time of the day they do it, there will always be one region that it’s a “bad” time for, that’s just an issue with time-zones.

(Ctrix) #12

Not talking about the client update.
And I don’t read cancer reddit and I don’t follow every random twitter account either.
You already have update/rotation news ingame, why have people go out of there way to even know that a server update is happening.

@Faraleth
Then my question is, why do it in the middle of the prime time of EU, which is propably their most, or second most played region? Why not something like Australia or Asia where the player base is much smaller?

@sentimentalDime It’s when Nexon start their day and it’s still early US time. Splash Damage are also still at work, so they can collaborate on getting the new build out AND perform server maintenance. Normally the down-time is shorter (between 3-4 hours) but today the servers likely got more of an update than usual.

If they were to do it many hours later, Splash Damage simply wouldn’t be in the offices still, and they couldn’t possibly do it earlier because Nexon don’t start the working day until afternoon EU time.

Again, it sucks, but that’s down to time-zones. It’s not Nexon or SD’s fault :confused:

So do you go into work say @ 2am to satisfy 15% of your customers?

Obama child.

(Amerika) #17

It would be nice if they used the in-game news ticker for server downtime but it’s pretty easy to jut go check the @DirtyBomb twitter feed even if you don’t follow it. Every game that has a unified system like this has issues where there is always one area of the world that is going to get the worst in regards to updates/maintenance.

(Mister__Wiggles) #18

@Ctrix
OK so you can’t go out of your way to read it in a forum/social media site but the people that post it have to? Double standards my friend, don’t be so lazy.

(Mister__Wiggles) #19

@RabidDoG
Your missing the point. Whichever time you chose you will always upset a minority of people, there is no way about it.

(XavienX) #20

Meanwhile in US West you hear crickets chirping in server browser.
