Is this game seriously region locked?

Umm, no dedicated servers? Where did you get this (mis)information?

(Decaptor) #42

I’m talking about player hosted dedicated servers. Publisher hosted servers are not future proof and a ****ing awful idea for a PC game.

You can kiss DB goodbye once the publishers/SD lose financial interest in this game.

The only reason old games like quake/enemy territory are alive today is because of the community. Not only because they can host the server but because they also modified and improved the game in one way or another (ETPro/Jaymod?

There’s a reason why you cant play most ps2/xbox games online anymore. There’s always an expiration date this way.

Again, where did you get this information?

Which information?

(chippy) #45

I’m guessing he wonders where you got the information that there will not be any dedicated servers for DB and what you base this statement upon.

Where did you get the info about no player-hosted servers?

(Decaptor) #47

Name one F2P FPS game with modifiable player hosted servers.

There’s no way to do this because of the nature of the game. Splash damage needs to control the servers to handle all the micro transactions which I assume is the reason they went this route with publishers handling the deployment worldwide.

Maybe they have to do this in this day and age to make a profit but there are several downsides of doing a game like this.

You can’t have mods this way, you can’t build a thriving server community, if the the publishers servers are down you can’t play the game. And worst of all, you don’t own the game.

Being an old hardcore pc gamer I find this business model a disgrace.

I know a group of people who were interested in this (All of them old ET players) but after the region locking debacle they just lost the interest.

Make of that what you will.

gee, you smart, maybe too smart for us

Ever heard of TF2?

Nothing, you got ninja’d

(Decaptor) #53

Yeah

Too bad SD doesn’t own their own publishing platform to make that possible as well.

I’m done arguing.

I don’t think this game will be successful the way it is now. If this find it’s way to steam in the future (which is highly likely) I’ll have no interest whatsoever by then.

You guys enjoy the game.
