Why is it always in Singapore where we are latency disadvantaged?
Is there any Australian Match server available?
They already said they removed them to keep the regions together. Some asian players were getting 300+ ping on Australian servers.
I really don’t get the logic behind it. Are the Australian player DB population so small, there can’t be two servers here and it will always have to be in Singapore?
Yeah, I thought that would of been pretty obvious tbh. Pre-season was controlled by cheaters (but that’s a different topic) and Ranked Season 1 had no Australian servers either. Unfortunately, the server quality in Asia feels worse for whatever reason too, like insult to injury.
I was actually suprised they put up some Australian servers for ranked, even though it was short lived. It’s totally understandable considering that Ranked will eventually die out in our region. This event seems like a last ditch effort to bring some popularity to it, but I highly doubt there will be many players actively playing ranked after this weekend, at least in Aus/Asia.
I dunno about you guys, but I’m getting 120 ping to most Asia servers these days, and it’s perfectly playable. From the gold coast anyway.
I really feel that there’s a competitive difference between 68ms and 180+ms.
Specifically, passing ammo, medpacks and throwing grenades, if you haven’t noticed.
wtf SD
i asked to put the asia server back to Singapore now they erased the AUS server?
what?
Let’s review this in terms of fairness again.
Why should Australian players playing matched be disadvantaged by latency? What is the very convincing reason why we shouldn’t have at least 2 match servers?
They already said they removed them to keep the regions together. Some asian players were getting 300+ ping on Australian servers.
Keeping regions together isn’t a valid reason. Australia is a continent by itself. And Asian players playing in Australia are welcome to do so, but they should realize that they’ll be disadvantaged by latency.
Why should Asian player voice count more than Australian?
Seriously, if this is SD’s definition of fair… then I can’t hold back why other player should look for methods of unfair advantage.
No-one said it’s completely fair, but honestly the player base in Australia is too small. Your 180 ping is better than a lot of Asian players having constant 350+ ping whilst playing ranked. It’s not the best system in the world, but at least we have ranked servers this time.
I’d rather be thankful that we actually have servers that aren’t 180 ping at best, based on when you’re lucky enough to get west over east whilst queuing in North America.
It isn’t fair K6, it’s just more fair than the other way around. As bushy already said:
- Our regions are too small to be separated right now.
- The Asian region has a bigger population, so servers are favoured towards them.
- The Asian players ping 350ms to Australia, while Australians on average seem to ping around 140ms to Singapore (some ping as low as 60, and many sit around 100ms) so once again, servers are favoured their way.
As bushy said. It isn’t fair, it’s just a slightly better compromise, and one I’m more than happy to live with at this point in time.
So then, why assign all players with that kind of latency on one side? Did any of you get the point?

Did you?
The point is both communities are too small to separate, so they have to remain together, so some compromise is needed.
If you’re implying people should be separated by ping as well as skill, that just sounds stupid in all honesty.
They can keep the Asian servers for Asian players but
There are 17 servers in Australia
There are 46 servers in Asia
Of the 17 servers in Australia, one can’t be converted to a match server? Yeah, the DB population in Oceana is really small, it’s just over a third, not even half of Asia.

You assume that players are nearly equally skilled, which is fair enough to assume, but to dismiss a technological discrepancy, is just outright stupid. You should know that this game is so fast, 40ms can become a big difference. Or maybe you got some other technology to compensate.

LOL
Half the problem is the datacentre where the servers are located doesn’t seem to have that many peering interconnects and so the routing is messed up. If you are in WA your traffic to the singaporean server seems to go to the east coast -> japan -> hong kong -> singapore
If that got fixed it would drop to 70ms and be playable for half the country
removing dupe post, although the routing issue got fixed for iiNet/tpg ppl on west coast at least now
