dirty bomb is a process, not a release, it will only be complete once devs stop updating. I image they will update DB for years
Is splash damage in trouble?
Yes, everyone is under NDA, but there are several levels of NDA, Internal, VIP, Alpha, Beta, and Nexon. VIP communication is just that. Things in the Alpha forums shouldn’t be discussed in the Beta forums, video is only allowed in the Alpha and Closed beta forums ie: here. Unfortunately Nexon has seen fit to ignore the NDA to a certain extent and allow anyone to view their closed ? beta forums, but just because you agreed to a NDA that doesn’t automatically grant you access to all info, just what’s relevant at the time, it’s really no big deal
Well, I can accept that to a degree, after all, founders paid a good deal of money and deserve something back for it. Having said that, if SD aren’t forthcoming about their plans for the future to a larger degree, and the next patch comes out and it’s another “well, we’ve nerfed a couple of mercs here and there, buffed another couple to balance things up a bit, we’ve changed a few spawn times and changed the odd objective” then the forums Christmas number one is going to be Bob Marley singing Exodus.
The patches that are coming out are tweaks, nothing fundamental is changing, no info about direction of the game is coming out, so the only conclusion there can be is that the game is pretty much how they want it to be in terms of lacking teamplay and being objective based, it just needs tweaks. Again, that’s fair enough, it’s their game and it will hopefully be a successful one for them that’ll maybe appeal to some area of the market, but it’s nothing like what I and many others hoped for. An objective, team-based game. Not another ET, or RTCW, we’ve played those to death already, but just something that functions as a team-based game that you want to sit down with your mates to play, develop strategies for, have fun with, enjoy.
Dog walking time again … i’ll leave the rest for someone else to moan about
Not trying to be “mean” but to be realistic, they’ll update it as long it is profitable to do so.
…or as long the publisher sees fit. (I used to absolutely love a F2P game called Blacklight Retribution but they stopped updating it. Apparently the game studio and the publisher are in bad terms now and so the game is in limbo for an ‘undetermined time’ now.)

i couldn’t consider it mean, as you basically said what i just said in more detail. why update a game no one is playing? if a considerate amont of people are playing it, then it is still profitable
i imagine, db will keep being update for years anyway, possibly dedicate a team on to it while simultaneously working on other new projects.
DB is the type of game you check up on for updates, playing a few hours after a update, it isnt yet, a game i could play all the time
Tweaks not patches, sums it up.
Bombing run was pretty nice, depending who played.
Shaped by gamers like a chisel shapes wood.
Still hoping for the big patch fixing teamplay.
Let me put it this way, I wouldn’t mind being offered shares
Heck, I’d even save up and buy, if it was possible.
Well there is this thing called the 80-20 rule which has proven to be awfully accurate in various kinds of projects. Basically it says 80% of the product is done in 20% of the time, so 20% of the product is done in 80% of the time. Probably Dirty Bomb is already over 80% finished, so don’t expect any revolutionary changes, but don’t expect the game to be released any time soon either. I’m not entirely sure whether SD making small changes over time is a bad thing, many bricks make a house. I just hope SD picks the right bricks.
count me in as well
Florisjuh,
I don’t think they’re near 80% done, I do think a bunch will come quickly
Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents on the lack of Community/Event participation. For me I honestly cared very little.
Prime example as to why. The last 2, maybe 3 weekends that I had time to spare to try firing up DB and catch a more populace northern hemisphere game… the client wouldn’t load… and I have been checking every now and then to see if a patch has been released to allow it to run again, and sort out whatever glitch it is that is causing this startup failure. The cause, I am fairly certain, is Nexon and their less than stellar cilent-ware.
I for one will be re-enthused about considering DB as part of my sparse gaming time again once it hits Steam (another bonus to that is that my ISP doesn’t count Steam data towards my quota, not that I use my quota often, but its nice to know I can install and uninstall monster games and take monster patches without a care in the world over potential speed throttling).
I think the Nexon client has played a not-insignificant part in lowering expectations and participation in the game.
No chance, I think it more likely that several things are part done, but not in a usable state to be shown in-game yet.
We will see I guess. I for one don’t expect to see many fundamental game play changes. Luckily, I am quite happy with the state of the game. It’s far from perfect, but much better than most games being released nowadays. However, playing DB is still miles away from being as fun as W:ET was for me.
just a guess here, but I think we might see some new maps that alter the claustrophobic feeling we have now, or at least I hope so. We haven’t heard much about new maps lately. there’s gotta be some
