Since I’ve been playing soldier lately, I’ve found it to be the best at flat out killing large numbers of people. In that time I’ve suddenly heard a ton of complaints about how over powered the class is and seen way more people playing soldier than usual, so I’m curious what other people think. I don’t find it difficult to counter soldiers with other classes myself, but I do think that when played correctly the soldier can do a lot more damage than any other class. What I do think should happen to the soldier is removing the damage reduction on headshots and increasing the c/d time on concussion grenades. Your thoughts on the class?
Is Soldier the new engineer?
The class is doing what in most cases is probably meant to do; Damage. The concussion grenades seem just right in my opinion. We will definitely see the class over used for sure, with the amount of damage that he does.
The only problem I can forsee is for TDM game modes. For objective game modes both sides will have a couple of soldiers for front-line fighting while the other players play support roles and objective roles. Who gets the kill makes less of a difference there.
But in TDM the focus is shifted on the kills and there they may become unbalanced.
I’m fairly OK with the soldier atm. The heavy weapon is awesome but runs out of ammo quickly so you need a field ops to back you up. And your health can still be chipped away so you need a medic to back you up.
As a 3 man team you can become unstoppable, bit that’s kinda the whole point of classes.
I think that an overall increase in strafe speed for every other class would greatly improve the attitude towards the soldier. If the soldier was kept at its current movement speed and the rest of the classes were able to strafe faster, then the aim skill required to track those players would negate the “spray and pray” style. I still feel like the movement issue needs to be tackled once and for all before I can really start commenting on class balances though.
Well the soldier was madly overpowered when the stick-on-hit was in. Now it’s still a decent killing machine thanks to a healthy clip capable of killing more than 1-2 people in a row.
Another possibility to control the soldier is to not give him much ammo upon spawn and not give him much ammo per ammo pack. That way he requires a field ops to run with him. This does a few things
1)promotes team work
2)makes it important to have a FOPS with the soldier class
3)limit’s the soldier’s killing ability.
The weird thing to me is that there was a thread saying there was no point in choosing the soldier. Anti responded saying they want the soldier to be the tank class. This thread says the soldier is too OP. WTF?
When I think of the soldier class, I think of a sluggish beast with a ****load of ammo and a license to kill. Make him slower than every other class, and he’s perfect.
I can agree with this somewhat. How much slower you thinking? Personal opinion; if it’s to slow then he will be almost useless.
I think we should stop making new threads on the same subjects. Valuable discussion is lost this way. I’ve seen this happen on a forum I’m now moderating. This sort of thing slowly evolves into an arms race where the only way to get your points heard is to be the original poster of a new thread.
I’m not accusing Inferno of anything, just a general comment and I think this an appropriate place to say it. And yes, you may call this armchair moderating, I think it would serve the purpose of this forum better if we stuck to the same threads and only made new ones for actually new topics.
Perhaps when holding the big gun he should be slower yeah but have him run at normal speed with other weapons please.
I like to play especially as soldier when you have to protect the data cores in London bridge
Wowowowow slowing down the movement speed for this particular class? I think people are forgetting something here. We’re not talking about the ‘soldier’ class here, we’re talking about the ‘assault’ class.
The big guns are great for defense and sure that could be compensated with a slower movement speed, but then you’re missing the fact that half of the time the soldier needs to rush, breach and secure locations before the rest of the classes can do their thing.
If anything this guy should be the fastest class of them all. The assault class should be the class that you need to get through before you even see the rest of the team. Making him slug behind the rest of the group like Brink’s or TF2’s heavies is completely defeating the purpose.
Speed should be entirely dependent on stance, weapon type, the mode of use ie iron sights.

100% on this, I can’t come to the forum that often lately and I’m allways lost in the bazzilion of new threads opened, SD is sorting them out I think, but as a user its pretty hard to track the different points made if any thread is a new one.
As for th soldier, I dont find him overpowered right now, it’s his job and he already has less toys than the other classes, rather than slowing him down drastically I would maybe increase speed by 5% of the other classes and increase jump momentum for all except for him (he’s carrying a ****load of stuffs in his backpack). I still think the escape system must be reworked in DB.
After more pugs I have come to the solid conclusion that soldiers need to only have one special grenade and it should have a much longer c/d. Also REMOVE DAMAGE REDUCTION ON HEADSHOTS. I can get just about everyone else in the pug to support this statement.
I understand the point on special grenades but not this one, what exactly do you mean?
