Is Rhino OP or am I just 2spooky?

So, Rhino is in free rotation and it seems like a get a f*ck load of kills in one life (more than I get with Nader which is like 6) so what I want to know is: Is Rhino generally an easy merc to play or am I just abnormally good with brain afk bullet spam?

It seems like we’re all too distracted by Phantom issues to talk about other mercs and I want to talk about Rhino.

Pubs don’t understand how: standoff distance, aiming for the head, and explosives work. Rhino is incredibly easy to down once you get used to him. There’s a counter at both CQC (explosives) and distance (minigun has massive shot bloom).

Rhino is pretty weak. He’s only better for some players when they have weak aim and you’re playing against people who don’t know how to not run into a Rhino with a spun-up minigun.

Basically, if you hear the gun spun up throw explosives and don’t stay there. If you can’t do that then avoid him unless you have range. That gun is amazing from close range to about 30 feet out and then it loses pretty much all of it’s effectiveness without being pretty restrained with it (which lowers it’s DPS but allows you to still hit).

I only play him if I want to troll. A Rhino rocking N2O augment can spin up the MG pretty fast but you have to be mobile and come around corners and surprise people. But if I was on Fragger, Skyhammer, Phantom, Nader or even Sawbonez I would typically be more consistent with kills/not being killed.

So much this. I’ve seen way too many people rush into an area when you can clearly hear a spun up minigun from quite a distance and it’s easy to pinpoint his location from it. People need to turn off music or get some headphones because it’s a dead giveaway.

I like playing Rhino…mainly because I like the heavier characters…no one has more health than him!

Anywho…what I notice is a lot of people charge him…and if you’re like almost not literally in my face when I see you odds are I’m going to mow you down before you get behind me.

Idk, I feel as a Rhino the added health makes it more convenient to run away from explosives. I dropped in on the elevator area in Underground and wiped out a full team once. +I’ve managed to kill quite a lot of the classes you’ve mentioned, even being pretty far away.

i think rhino is one of the easiest mercs to kill (because he is so slow) and im usually playing kira, keep distant and corner straf him with headshots and kiras speed, rhino usually cant even get 1 bullet to hit me because of kiras speed.

Rhino seems Good but the majority of the time on the Leaderboards I see Rhino’s Negative K/D-Wise. Mostly because experienced players can counter them somewhat easily, And Rhino’s playstyle is Camping with a Medic, defending an objective.
The Minigun gets really inaccurate, so if you stay at range and strafe a lot, it will be significantly harder for a Rhino to hit their shots.
Evasion in games is key in most situations, and that is something Rhino severely lacks. When I played other FPS games one Consoles I would get a lot of hate messages calling me a “Bunny” because i jumped a lot to avoid getting damaged, and it was very effective.
Rhino is at a heavy disadvantage in a Fast-paced FPS like DirtyBomb, his best option is sticking with a Medic, defending an objective.

In certain situations, Rhino can be very Overpowered. But he can be easily countered.

Don’t forget about Vassili.

Every Rhino I see never goes positive K:D and would be better off going Fragger or any other merc for that matter.

He’s pretty easy to counter, just dull and boring to fight/play.

Really? I got 21/7 yesterday on a minimum level 10 server.

Rhino has the health to be able to take more hits, and the ability to dish out a lot of damage(With almost negligible prep work), but this does not make him overpowered. He can work well alone if the player is intelligent and adept with the merc, but for the most part he needs a team with him. Personally Rhino is my current favourite, I bought him before the free rotation but since it came out it’s been hard to play him(Because of the mass of other Rhino’s and swarms of suicide Proxy’s). With just a small bit of figuring out I’ve been able to turn that slow tank into a much more mobile one, with some practice I was able to find a way to turn his bullet haemorrhaging minigun into a semi-accurate turret.

Every merc has their downsides, you can choose to play around them, or find a way to overcome them completely… when you do, that is when people decide your merc is over powered.

(Sussepus) #13

are there any merc in free rotation that havent been labeled op?

(SaulWolfden) #14

Arty (pre-buff)?

(gg2ez) #15

Kira? Haven’t seen a Kira OP post anywhere.

(MTLMortis) #16

Yeah, Kira’s orbital laser needs some time chopped off it’s duration or it’s damage severely reduced.

Apart from that, Rhino is only really effective mid-range. Close up he’s too easy to circle and just headshot. Shotguns for the win.
