Is population the main reason for slow development?

Often times, DB’s update frequency regarding content, bugfixing and balance is compared to other, much more popular online shooters.

It’s no surprise the more players play, the higher the chance are for devs to make money.
By the time of this post, DB’s population is around 4K (according to SteamDB). And is it reasonable to blame the popularity for slow updates? Or maybe it’s just devs themselves taking forever to do anything, or maybe both?

sounds like devs need to fill out a lot of positions in development. So overall its good: money is there, and with good candidates many fields of development might increase in pace. Definitely seems like map development is picking up with dockyard coming, and already hints of another map announced!

According to SD themselves, there’s definitely more than 4k people playing. 15000 Lifesaver Trinkets were obtained in the last event, which would make it at least 15k people playing.

We also see new players everyday. One big problem is retaining these new players, an issue in every online game. Thing is, once you lose a player, even if you’re just in early access/beta still developing the game, getting them back can be difficult. I can imagine that as development picks up in the coming months, so will the population and amount of players staying rather than leaving.

sploosh, there was over 160k players in the last 2 weeks

@Szakalot What? Where? How? I need answers! Why have I failed to use quick join three times in a row, with that many players?

(Szakalot) #6

dunno

This is like having your girlfriend’s family come over when you haven’t cleaned your house in months. This is so embarassing, ans good, then embaressing again.

There are also Whalers needed to be taken in consideration.

Peak isn’t total players.

Also no, their DB team is just nonexistent right now, why else would they be hiring.

My bad, should have been “amount of people playing” or something like that.

There are 200 SD employees, according to their site http://www.splashdamage.com/people
Hard to tell how many are working on DB.

(AlbinMatt) #11

What are Splash Damage working in anyway? Tempo? RAD Soilders? Dirty Bomb? Is Enemy Territory still being maintained?

(Nail) #12

Gears of War is their other big title, there are a couple unannounced game projects as well, but Tempo and Rad Soldiers are not being worked on and W:ET hasn’t been touched by SD since 2.60b update iirc

(Demolama) #13

and 2.60b was all bani and crew passing on their fixes of the vanilla client on to SD for mass release.

SD mostly stopped working on W:ET as soon as it was released for free because they had free bug fixers of Bani and Shrub, who got access to the code a year before anyone else in the community did.

I think slow development is the reason for slow development.

Hitting close to two years now without any real content…I would think a small group working out of their garage would have been able to put out some kind of new content in two years.

So far after all of the promises they made about how splitting from Nexon, all they have done in the months from splitting is give us some busy work I.E. trinkets and ranked skin…and show us a few videos of a new map that we’ve been waiting about 2 years for.
