Is Phantom Still Useful?

I still have yet to get Phantom (I saved up 50k for him. Then Redeye came out. I bought him instead), but I’m planning on getting him soon. But is he still useful? Is he worth it, or did his super nerf (even with the recent buff) make him useless?

As long as your not one of those lunatics who try to melee only then you’ll be fine. Also the recent buf i actualy nice and makes flanking a bit easier.

He’s useful but he’s not so useful in his role that he’s an obvious choice. Still fun, still good, just… like, in between decent and strong.

A good Phantom can do work. So in the hands of a decent player he’s useful. Sometimes his playstyle just meshes with certain people and they can perform better with him.

the phantom that i played against yesterday was more than useful. still got a sore back…

He’s good at harassing the enemy while your team focuses on the objective. Though he isn’t really that effective at killing. There are other mercs than can do his job better. With that said, Phantom is one of my favorite play styles. It’s so satisfying to get 1 shot lunge kills on the low HP mercs.

He’s fun to play in pubs though.

@tameBeetle M8 you know it’s true. Katana only phantom isn’t really viable. And you will be of less use to your team than you’d usually be.

I actually really enjoy Phantom myself but he just isn’t useful, maybe if they gave Phantom an actual recon ability then yeah, he would be. But right now he’s just a merc that can just shoot and cut things while invisible.

I actually play Phantom in competitive with my team. Reason is that most of the time we don’t need an engineer to arm/disarm/repair faster and Phantom’s killing potentials are a lot greater than let’s say Bushwhacker or Proxy’s. Plus, the Refractive armor gives off XP when an enemy is near so when I start receiving XP I will call out “Somebody is near me at ____” which my team think is a lot more valuable than a merc that can do objectives a bit faster.

Nah @terminal the guy i wrote this to hasn’t commented but he has done other stuff. Also why do you assume m8.

But other than that i’m a phantom main myself but i haven’t played with him in comp in a long time. But most of the time when i use him i flank the enemy pick off the most important mercs and just distract the enemy to buy my team some time. Or i just sneakily walk straight at my enemy and the jump them. Btw i didn’t know that if an enemy’s near ull get exp for it. TY for that now i can use him even more tactically.

I assumed it was because you said his buff was nice. I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy is one of those “always sprint” types.
