I was yesterday matched within 1 minute into a CMM game in which all my team mates had less than 50 hours in steam. Today I was matched into a ranked game within one minute in which the enemy team had a cobald officer and gold specialist duo. We didnt even have a gold specialist solo, but to make things fair we got a silver officer. I could understand to be matched into something like this after 5 to 10 mins but not within one minute.
Is matchmaking broken?
Was it ever right since it get released? I mean, do players play the game seriously enough to achieve the objective or are they consequential to the allotted time?
Premades usually cause this from my experience. After a certain point, DB just seems to stop searching for a balanced match for that team and just throws them in with whoever it can, which results in a premade of high or low level players stacked up against someone they should never face otherwise.
Of course it’s not the only cause of unbalance, but it’s the main one I’ve run into.
But yeah, broken in the sense that it uses wins and losses rather than personal performance to determine internal rank, and keeps stacked premade teams all on the same team instead of splitting them across both
Try queueing with friends, so you don’t have to deal with newbie teammates. But either way if ranked isn’t busy with players, it might increase skill requirements, putting you into a game with higher ranks. If the skill requirement keeps increasing, your probably not going to have a fun time…unless you get carried ex dee.

We’ve taken a look and it all seems to be working fine. This is more an issue with low population of players searching for Ranked matches than anything else. That being said, we plan on Ranked becoming more populated in the coming weeks with our regular updates to the mode, along with much more activity around the 1.0 release and subsequent updates to DB. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on it’s performance and tweak anything we feel could improve things.

I’m not sure more ranked players are going to automatically solve this.
Sure, it’s nice to have more players for match making to pick from but I’m concerned that for the foreseeable future they will dabble in the bronze and lower silver ranks. Which means medics never charging their defibs, Skyhammers dropping ammo only for themselves, EV repairs in triplets, non switching 3/27 Vassilis, C4 plants on hard to defend spots and a general inability to destroy generators with explosives.
That’s not going to make ranked more enjoyable for the gold+ crowd. Especially not if they keep getting matched with lower ranks, which basically turns a 5 vs 5 in a 3 vs 4.
It’s certainly nice if ranked gets a few special rewards as incentive to play it.
But I think better sooner than later SD also has to invest into mechanics that give players more opportunities and feedback on how well they are doing skill wise and in which areas they still need to invest. Plenty of ideas have been given in these forums (simple offline map exploration and merc practice, achievements like “revive N players to 50 or more health”, a shooting range tutorial with bunny hopping bots, …) but so far it’s unclear if any of these are on SD’s radar.

unless you guys double the rewards for playing ranked matches, put in packs that were prev in events or will only be obtained via ranked and fix the problem plaguing it there wont be much of an increase
The problem of Ranked isn’t the quantity of players, but the (lacks of) quality of players and the trash balance. SD only try to increase the quantity, then that solve nothing at all.
Currently, I’ll play Ranked only if they pay me $100 per week… ^^
