Unfortunately, the closest we’ll probably get to flamer is the shotgun. There’s going to be a lot of open spaces now so flamer would probably make little sense. But I’m puzzled why SD cares so little about Wolf:ET flamer - it’s not used even on pubs, so why not boost it a little ?
One very cool thing would be flamer mounted (as secondary weapon) on a vehicle, especially fast vehicle.

Sigh. At least there’s the shotgun. W:ET doesn’t even have a shotgun. I hope it’s not a reskinned Garand…

?!!!

Flamer abuse is my favourite pasttime these days! Findin new and excitin places for usin it! It isn’t used maybe because it’s just overlooked by people who go for panzer or mg, even the mortar seems to be used more than it tbh. BUT sometimes there’s nothin like playin with fire, as I’ve discovered lately! :]

But I don’t think its lack of use has anything to do with developer support!

where the humans use conventional sun cream packs distributed by the butition class the strog must blanance the use of stroygen between health, ammo and sun cream

mine as well, there’s nothing like going on a pub and cooking the noobs. well, in fact there is one thing: back in the old days, ever tried in goldrush on shrub mode (where you could combine classes) to play as allie, go to the gold chamber, insert a red syringe and enter the gold room and let the flaming hell break loose at the axis that were inside? now that’s fun :smiley: :clap:

It is overlooked for good reason. It’s terribly unwieldy, and the firepower is nothing special in the world where 50% consist of medics. Besides, somehow my victims have no trouble at all hitting me while on fire. No, I don’t jump into open areas or fire loong bursts. I even suprise my enemies with handgrenades when they least expect it.
I played mostly flamer for months - I continued my Q3F Flametrooper hobby.Conclusions I reached:

  • there’s hardly any task that can be done with flamer that an another weapon can’t perform. Really. Flamer is fairly good at ambushes, but which weapon isn’t ?
  • when used on defense… if you stay in (semi)obvious spots, it’s just as effective as panzernoob - you fry one person and often die in process.
  • teammates are dumb. They jump onto your line of fire when they see you firing flamer and blame you.
  • I got 200+ xp 100% flamer on GoldRush once, as an ally. Heavy3 is great help. Yes, they were mostly newbies. On another occassion I was even kicked for using flamer over and over.
  • frying a medic is very, very hard. Most people play medics where I come from.

So you either take a lot of damage by ‘attacking’ face to face, from around a corner etc - or ambush people from behind. Groups of several people aren’t easier to fry than they’re to kill with rifle grenade/panzer/mg, and that’s assuming you can sneak into a group, not an easy task with slow-moving short-ranged weapon.

But I don’t think its lack of use has anything to do with developer support!

Do you honestly think flamer is a weapon worth taking over any other ? Give me one example on whatever map you like. It’s far easier to kill with pistol, knife, satchel and dynamite.
My point is: why wasn’t the flamer improved ? Or is there some kind of conspiracy and secret agreement not to use flamer ?

Seems like you rekindled my love for fire. As much as I hate xp save servers, I think I’m going to find one in order to run around with Heavy3+Bsense2 for few hours.

Favourite flamer spots:

  • Gold Rush tank defence; near balcony, bank
  • Battery main bunker defence would be sweet if there weren’t so many teammates carelessly jumping on your flamer; and grenade spam. Ft is just ineffective at defending backdoor. Ft suprisingly good at defending the ramp.
  • Oasis - upper route between old city wall and axis spawn is sweet for axis ft.
  • Fuel Dump - no good flamer spots, period.
  • Radar - both side bunker and main gate are one trick ponies, not worth it.
  • if you camp Commandpost area with flamer (Railgun), it means you’re not after the objective. It’s not such a great flamer spot anyway.

All I meant was I’m having fun using the flamer these days! You know? Fun?! :o

And it beats a panzer in any close range fight, in a panzer fight you usually die by your own splash damage, flamer you can flame on with less chance of killing self. So it beats panzer, rifle nade in plenty of situations. My fave place at the minute is the back stairs in Caen, on the railing over the stairs.

Believe or not, I understand the concept of fun.

Another funny fact: At one point of a match I checked my flamer statistics.
Roughly 2000 damage dealt (125 team damage)
Kills: 7 (seven).
Axis, the map with “modification kit” and antenna.

With most other weapons, you’d divide 2000/120 and get around 16 kills by that point. In fact, less because of medics and people you simply didn’t manage to kill. For stat whores the problem with flamer may be that you often don’t get the kill even if you took the most of opponent’s health. Your teammates profit.
Not that it bothers me much, but it’s somewhat disappointing. I mean, on average I dealt 220+ damage to get one “kill” counted. A bit ridiculous. I could live with less points knowing that I do good service to my team, but my skills raise lower than usual… and Heavy3 is great for using flamethrower.

you don’t use a pants-ah in close range, you are level 4 soldier and got an smg for that :smiley:

btw speaking of fun: anyone else here who uses a panza and picks the first one who calls him puss and makes him the fav vaporization victim? :bump:
