Is it really that bad?

Hi!

I’m thinking of getting this game pretty soon when the price drops a litte more or when I get a bit of extra money and just snap it up, but I’m looking at all the complaints in this forums and it’s a bit off-putting… I saw an in depth analysis by this guy on youtube, it was like 54 minutes long, and to be honest it looked pretty good! It was on PC so the graphics would obviously be better, but the gameplay looked pretty solid!

So my question is it really as bad as all the haters make out? really? Or should i wait a bit till all the lag is patched blah blah blah?

What Platform is the major question, people say xbox is realy bad put TBH it isnt.

(Bullet_Ride474) #3

Oh yeah haha, I’m talking about getting it on the PS3.

(Smokeskin) #4

It is really, really good. It was a bit rough at first, but there have been several patches already - dev support seems really good, so I think you can be confident that it’ll keep on getting better.

If we had chat during debriefing and cutscenes, and the carb smg was nerfed and heavy weapons buffed, this game would be close to perfect.

This on PC, consoles wait and see if the patch fixes the issues.

The fact that there is a lot of moaning indicates that the game has a following. If no one cared it would sink without trace and the forum would be dead.

I love it. I just wish there was more longevity (harder trophies/higher level cap).

Bad? No!
Its awesome  I’m playing on PC and im having no big problems but tons of fun
You should get it.

Apart from the lagg the game is fine for me on the 360.

It can be immense fun if you get a good room.

Thanks for the responses guys, i’ll be picking it up as soon as possible:)

Sorry but it really is that bad. I wanted Brink to truly succeed but in all honesty there isn’t a single part of the game that is executed well

(engiebenjy) #11

Game seems very much love it or hate it, or perhaps people who think its okay just dont see a reason to voice an opinion. It has 71 on metacritic (75 and above is categorised as “Generally Favorable Reviews”) so this would suggest it really isnt as bad as some make out.

Some areas could have been done better - but even still I find it an enjoyable experience - when i dont lag all over the place

(wolfnemesis75) #12

Hey, I will play with ya! Xbox.

(Kurnuttaja) #13

If you want to take all out of it I recommend PC, because it is so fast-paced and I dont know how well a gamepad would success with aiming.

(xzen) #14

There’s reduced recoil on consoles so it’s not too bad. It’s still much more fast paced than the norm for console FPS games (e.g. BF, TF2, COD).

Brink is a very fun but flawed game.

The actual mechanics are brilliant. The shooting and movement feel like a joy to me.

However, there are concerns:

If you don’t like a lack of TDM and CTF and more standard modes and a large variety of modes in general, then Brink might disappoint.

Brink has one mode. It’s built specifically for this mode and it works very, very well. It’s not to everyone’s taste, however.

There are also tehnical concerns:

Lag. Most of this is fixed now, and my ps3 experience is mostly smooth in this regard, but others are still reporting issues.

The engine feels a little unresponsive at times. It’s not as polished as it could be, and while it’s very fun other titles might have raised your expectations a little high. If you can forgive the technical shortfalls (which aren’t too great) you should be just fine.

For some reason, it’s very difficult to find consistently populated rooms online with ps3. I have a 20mb down, 2mb up hard wired connection to my ps3 so I should be able to enjoy the full 8v8 experience, but even setting it to Big Teams (SD’s option set for those with similar networks speeds) and I find that 70% of my matches are only half-populated by human players.

This could be due to a poor matchmaking system, or perhaps by a lack of online community, but it might be something to consider if you require you prefer a more human based interaction.

Also to consider in this regard is that, outside of setting up ‘fireteams’ or using an external VOIP app, there is /zero/ way to communicate with your teammates in Brink on consoles.

This led to a disembodied experience for me, and often I don’t even realise when most of the team has left after a few games and I’m playing with a room full of bots.

Let me tell you this: I love Brink and I’ve tried to convince all my friends to buy it, but be wary of the people who praise it without question. They’re just as blind as those who hate pout their relentless ire on it.

I hope you try Brink and love it. I tried it and I like it a lot. I wish I could say more.

(Brink Lags) #16

Its a great game. It doesn’t work yet, but it is great.

Wait another week when it will be $15 used. Its worth about 1 dollar in its current state.

(xzen) #17

Try playing on the playlists with “Public VOIP Enabled” checked if you want to communicate in pubs, I believe these playlists are currently Advanced, Competition and Old School. Hopefully once the netcode fix is pushed out this week Advanced/Old School will be set back to 8v8 instead of 4v4 with bots (Advanced) and 4v4 (Old School) as they currently are.

(fearlessfox) #18

I know, and I should have mentioned that so good catch!

Thing is, No one is playing any of those modes. At least, every time I’ve tried to find games with these options I’ve been placed in empty warmups.

The only ones that are active consistently are Standard and Big Teams.

Tbh, the entire menu system regarding navigating to online play needs an overhaul.

(Dopaminergic) #19

Please do not waste your money on this game. Spend it on something better.

(Lozmuir) #20

Just buy it, once the lag is gone the game will be fine.

Just don’t listen to the crying and have faith in SD.
